Stolen or not?

So, this guy has so far sold 2 bikes on gumtree.
Anyone know him or is it stolen stuff that's going?

think it looks really suspicious the way its a very basic old crapper of a road frame being called a track bike.

And the fact that it has good new parts like a rolls saddle, white goldfinger brake lever, and new wheelset (the kind that cost up to £200 on ebay)

Yet none of these bits are mentioned at all.

another thing to mention is that if the seller is using a mobile number, chance are that it's stolen.

weird thing though.
If you google his number similar bikes come up. Where he mentions the fit outs, ambrosio hubs etc etc.
This is all a bit odd. Probably stolen but three different very similar looking bikes?

I think it probably is Carl. He buys junkers, resprays them and sells them at ridiculous mark ups. If people want to pay that sort of money it's their own fault for being poseurs.

fair play Dogs, you're playing polo with the guy, not having his kids.

Maybe Mike can explain that fencing stolen bikes isn't what he had in mind when he told Carl "find an alternative job or lose a testicle".

It feels like there’s a mob mentality growing here, along with a hatred directed specifically towards Carl, who's name has been bandied about a few times in posts about bike theft in Dalston.

If someone has evidence he’s fencing stolen parts, it would be really useful if you could phone the police (hopefully you'll still have his phone number from the Gum tree ad which lead to recovering stolen parts? If not, Gum tree will have it and the police can retrieve it from them). If he’s as dodgy as suspected/assumed then he’ll likely have previous, and a knock at the door from the old bill will be the last thing he’ll want.

If there's no evidence he's still stealing bikes or buying stolen parts, lets not demonise him by assuming he’s the criminal mastermind behind all thefts in hackney.

Someone whose a self confessed bike thief and fencer has already demonised themselves. Scum need to know that if they are going to fuck around with our bikes then there will be consequences. You need to HTFU if you think that the police powers or the laws of the land as they stand are anything like a deterrent to bike theft.

I'm not suggesting a lynching, or a beating cos i dont want to end up behind bars myself, but a little bit of fear and intimidation goes a long way, as does getting the parts back of the motherfucker.

Problem is some tight jean wearing hipster fop is about the easiest target on 2 wheels - your average hipster looks about as capable of handling themselves as julian clary - maybe its time to change that perception

hey,
a mate of mine told me that this dude carl went to polo in shoreditch and that he was getting stick for saying that he was a thief so i went down a couple of weeks ago and saw carl pass by very quickly as he saw me standing there...i dunno, the kid did sell my stolen bars and stem and saddle. i met him after i got the no. off gumtree realising that all my stuff was coming from the same dude. he was pissed when i accussed him of ripping them off and said he bought them off a mate. he then threatened to 'fuck me up' so me and my friend left without the stuff that he eventually offered for £20. i wasnt that bothered about the stuff just interested as to who was taking it cos im not the first person i know to have lost stuff around dalston. now i know. my friend and i work at a bike shop where carl used to come in and hang around asking questions and checking out values.he recognised my friend but i had just started there so he didnt know me. he tried to come back to the shop but was told to leave.

so whether or not this kid is/was/maybe a wee shite is not the question. the question is do you give a shit? if you do do you deal with it by including him and trying to offer him a better way to spend his time, if you think thats gonna make a difference? or do you exclude him and/or beat the living crap out of him? does any of this solve the problem of bike theft? no, because the problem isnt that bikes are knicked but that our country is shite and we treat each other like crap.

personally, i have enough peace of mind knowing that compared to how much i love and enjoy my life, the people who steal shit off my bike probably have a pretty shit time. i also know that i had the chance to beat the living crap out of one of them and didnt so i personally will be shutting the fuck up.

No, their enjoying life using the money they made from stealing the parts off your bike, whilst having a right giggle over how you fucked off when he threatend to "fuck you up", and looking forward to the buzz they will get from their next theft.

The problem isnt that our country is shit - its the greatest place in the world if you get off your ass and go for it, the problem is that were too soft on crime, that our social security system alows cunts to sit on their backsides all day, and that respect from youths has gone out the window because neither the Police or adults can give the fuckers a good hiding when they need it. Its just too easy to get away with it.

If the police have different people calling them with evidence about one person's activity, they have to take some action. There’s a complaints procedure if it’s not completed to a satisfactory level.

If anyone has evidence about anyone nicking bikes, it should be reported. Even if nothing happens immediately, the long-term effect is that bike crime stats rise and it becomes a bigger issue, which demands more policing.

I’m not here to defend Carl. I don’t know for sure if he’s knicking stuff or not. I’m pointing out that there seems to be no evidence that he’s responsible for recent bike theft in hackney, and yet people keep bringing his name up on various threads and then saying he should be threatened or harmed and I think that’s wrong. Lets all stop baying for his blood unless he’s actually proven guilty of something.

The guy knows shitloads about bikes, and he loves building them up. Does anyone actually know for sure he was aware the parts he had on his bike were stolen? He buys and sells bits off his mates all the time. So do I. Maybe you do too. From Ebay? From a friend of a friend? Do you know they're defintetely not nicked, somewhere along the lines?

Yes, he's apparently admitted knicking bikes in the past. Apparently he also said he got caught by the police and doesn't do it now – so maybe the law of the land and police powers did work after all.

I’ve seen Carl kick off when he got angry at polo, threatening to fuck someone else up. He’s a pretty angry dude. I’m sure he won’t give a fuck about ‘a bit of fear and intimidation’; I bet he’s seen plenty of that in his life.
