Bristol in unipack shocker

thats right folks, they have spread from the capital and have hit bristol... spotted, today, in redland, a black one with red wheels and a freewheel and a nervous looking rider.. i was driving with my dad and after my outburst of "you have got to be fucking kidding me" i had to explain.

Went through bristol recently for the first time in years, saw a guy with girls jeans, cycle cap & wayfarers pushing along a aerospoke equipped bike along.

I presumed 'fixed' was there in its totality.

might have been me. since theft struck, I ride a raleigh conversion. and a holdsworth.

yesterday i rode 74" up constitution hill (in bristol). until you've achieved similar feats, mr deadlyunipack, i suggest you run along and let the big boys talk.

the fixed apocalypse does seem to be arriving though.

Nice one PJ - haven't been able to do that one yet.

Another nice short burst is the climb up St. Michael's Hill to Cotham Brow - managed to barely do that one, and then had to rest for 30sec to catch my breath (running a 42x15 right now).

Are you ever on the Gloucester Road? I'm usually trucking up and down that way - Blue charge plug with White Deep Vs and arctic camo saddle. Say hello sometime.

gloucester road occasionally.

i also rode up the hill from ashton court (bottom gate) to the suspension bridge. that one really really hurt.

Hills?? Who wants to come over to my neighbourhood and take on Vale Street in Totterdown? It's reputedly the steepest residential street in Europe with a 45 degree section at the bottom!

(Even the thought of attempting it makes my legs go all funny)

I've really nothing against what anyone else rides. All i meant was you see Langsters everywhere these days - and I'd not seen many other fixed bikes in Bristol. They're are a few Surlys & Pompinos.

I usually take my pub bike when I'm in Bristol. Wave if you see me!

Where do you guys all hang? I'm in the Bishopston area - we'll have to arrange a meet for some drinks at some point - SouthWest drinks or something...

I've been meaning to go to Newport velodrome for awhile - the steep banks make Herne Hill look like child's play apparently.

What's everyone over here doing this week? Maybe organize something for Wed/Thu?

It'd be good to see some Bristol Names&Faces posted, so I know who to look out for.

You lot must run a pretty low gear? I tried to ride from Montpellier to Clifton via Stokes Croft and almost bust my balls. and I run a (lowish) 66 GI on that bike. Still there is some amazing skidding to be done in the wet!

I run about 74 gear inches (42-15) and cycle up and down between Bishopston and Filton (the hill coming up to the airbus roundabout can mess you up if you're having a bad day).
To get to Clifton I usually just go up Kellaway or into the city centre past Zero Degrees.
Anyway, we'll have to set up a night to meet for drinks and all that. Old Duke or Apple sounds good to me.

I've had my bike on the road for a couple of months running 42 16, so 71". I'm finding the hills a lot less of a problem than I thought! I have to ride past Temple Meads up the Wells Road every day, and I reckon I do it literally twice as fast now as I ever did it on my road bike before!

@Whatfriends - sorry dude, I'll keep it strictly hill-free from now on!

I'm up for a names and faces thread or something, just as soon as I put a more socially acceptable saddle on my bike, and get this damn plastic surgery...

Who's for meeting up in Grenada, and riding up Market Hill?

I haven't got the lungs, or the legs; I'd stand and watch......sipping a rum and coke.
