How often does everyone true their wheels?

I was just wanted to know how often wheels needed to be trued? Because ive had mine for two and half weeks and they need to be trued again already.

if they were new, there'll be a bedding in period where they may need to be tweaked for tension, but re trued already? spose it depends on your riding and what the wheels are but if you true them now i'd be suprised if they need redoing again for a while.

What friend's explanation is pretty accurate. Once trued after bed-in, with good even tension all the way around wheel, re-truing is not really required for a long-long time, if ever.

But me, I just look at them sternly, they soon straighten out.

must be a crap build then. my condor built goldtec/open-pro's haven't needed to be touched after 16 months of use. my self built MTB wheels needed a 1/4 turn after a year as they take a lot more abuse than a road wheel.

Good wheelbuilders stress the wheel as part of the building process, you can do this yourself buy yanking with all your might on your spokes, squeezing and if you like jumping on your wheels.

Then with the final 'true' they stay like that forever.

Some lazy mtb wheelbuilders also ignore the fact that disc braked wheels can benefit from 3x or 4x lacing.

Machine built wheels tend to need truing fairly soon. Hand built wheels if properly done may not need attention for ages.

Depends on the surface you ride on, weight they have to support and quality of components too.

My cheap-as-chips SystemX+ACI+Mavic self built wheels have been going almost a year without needing the slightest tweak, and that was the first wheels I've built. About 5000 miles on them so far.
