Chain Lock Length?

This is a extremely noobish question but I've got a quick Q about lock lengths for wearing around your waist..

How long does it need to be, roughly? i'm a 32inch waist - could I get away with an 80cm one? Or would I need a longer one?

I'm looking at either of these:

http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productD...productID=5458

http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productD...productID=5448

but thought that the 110cm one might be annoyingly long..

thanks

Buy the long one and use a karabiner to adjust to waste size.

Get one with a separate padlock, then you can choose which link you lock it onto. I'm a 32" ish waist and I use the 100cm New York chain. I have found that locking through one link off the end puts it snugly around my arse and doesn't dig into my hips. Surprisingly comfy, even all day.

Don't lock a chain round your waist. In the event of an accident (touch wood and all that) it's harder for an ambulance crew to remove and they have to get the fire brigade in to remove it which takes extra time.

I'm a 34" waist, and I've got a 100cm Abus steel-o-flex, which sits about right.

You could always try a tape measure first!

Yeah! What I mean is don't use the lock to join it up you a clip of some sort.

I usually sling mine round my neck/right shoulder, on top of my messenger bag strap if you see what I mean.
I take it that the consensus is that this would snap my neck if I fell off?

Or alternatively you could put it in you bag? Just a thought.

It's pretty big and heavy- and much easier to deploy of it's slung round my neck/shoulder.
Inconveniently big to stick into the bag really.

Bigger bag, FTW :)

To be honest I have been known to wear my chain like that, but only when I'm not using a bag. Didn't like riding with it around the waist. If you're using a bag though, I would still recommend throwing it in there instead.
