| | big daddy wayne - can you confirm where you are from? (what are your sushi/sashimi credentials). No offence to the Brits out there but when it comes to recommendations on Asian (or Oriental as you would call it) food, even your professional restaurant critics can be way off the mark. I am always hankering for good (reasonably priced) sashimi and struggle in the UK. although akari on the cnr of Essex & Canonbury in Islington is decent - and prob my fav London japanese eatery. |

Used to be a chef though so I'd say i've got a fair idea of what's good and the fact that they regularly have busloads of japanese tourists eat in there is also a fair indicator, give it a go! best Sushi I've had was in Sydney, glorious

| | The best Sushi/Japanese place in London is Sakura on Hanover Street imo Ace food and always full of Japanese people. Has all the usuals, live fish in tanks when you walk in, hustle and bustle of chefs on the left preparing... Even has Japanese TV on the box! If anyone ever ventures south Tsunami in Clapham is LUSH too - head chef is some matey who used to work with Nobu in the first Park Lane restaurant |

| | i love okinomiyaki.. they cook it infront of you at my local yakisoba resturant...hhmmmmm. speaking of which, its almost dinner time! and to my knowledge, they dont do whale or dolphin Sushi/Sashimi (would be too expensive for the kind of resturants i go to anyway) they do have raw chicken and horse though....... |

I'm not denying that Asian-fusion restaurants like Zuma, Roka, etc have yummy food... but it's not really Japanese.

| | No way! You must not be an East Ender then. There are loads of cheapo Vietnamese places at the bottom of Kingsland Rd. I like the pho at Song Que... about £5 for a big-ass bowl of noodles with all the trimmings: http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/restaur...urant-8286.php And the non-pho Vietnamese dishes at Viet Grill (e.g. the Vietnamese pizza, the signature torture beef dish): http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...e2-416801.html For somewhere more central, there's Pho Cafe (one near in Clerkenwell, one near Tottenham Ct Rd): http://www.phocafe.co.uk/frameset.htm |

| | "Sarf" west - where there is considerably less culinary diversity but oddly enough I can get good Mexican. Off to the Pho cafe tomorrow for lunch then, assuming I don't get distracted by the okonomiyaki on the way.... Thanks! Last edited by Aroogah; 27th August 2008 at 14:32.. Reason: okonomiyaki does not really flow off the keyboard.... |
