Animated avatar ain't working

Can anyone suggest why my image looses its animation once I upload it to be used as my avatar?

It's too big.

Maximum size 64x64.

Your GIF is 64x85.

So the forum software is scaling it down to 64x64 and it does not possess the brains to also convert the animation (it just chooses the first frame).

sorry to hijack (albeit now defunct) thread, but i cannot make an animated avatar for love nor money. I have the damn thing made in photoshop- it's seven frames, 64x64 pixels and 6kb in size- but have no idea how to save it as a working animated GIF. I followed the instructions given in help but no joy... any help'd be... helpful.

I see the avatar's working. What was the problem in the end? I think I may have a go at making one meself soon...
