| | just now a car swerved into my lane, no harm done but I went to see them as they had stopped by the lights. They were four of them and gave me big smiles and huge apologies. They explained that the lady driver was Polish and new in London (they were in a Polish car). I forgave them instantly :) So refreshing not to be greeted with a torrent of abuse, both sides. |

| | Just had a refreshing experience this evening. Was nipping into the offies to break a tenner so I could give a fiver to edmundane for a rim. There were two young lads in there on Halfords death traps and they were totally amazed by my bike. They couldn't fathom it at all and started asking all these desperate and awe-filled questions like "how fast does it go?" "why does have no gears?" "could it beat my bike in a race?" "can it do tricks?" "how do you fit your feet on those tiny pedals (spd's)?" They were so fascinated I stuck around for a bit chatting to them about fixed wheel bikes explaining some of the hows and whys. Hopefully inspired them to not go for the shiny 73 geared grip shift nasties next time they want a bike for christmas. |

| | A number of years ago I was sat on a Met line train out towards the end of the line (visiting the olds), bouncing along, as you do. There was another train travelling along parallel to us, a few tracks over, and from it a small girl was waving to our train, encouraged by her father. The young lady who was sat opposite me, rather than wave back in a sympathetic, friendly manner, decided it would be more of a giggle to flick the Vs at her and mouth "F--- OFF". I'm ashamed to say I laughed. |

couple weeks ago in Wimbledon, a Ford MPV drove past me so close that the mirror hit my shoulder really hard (got a tiny bruise but nothing serious, the lady slow down almost instantly, parked and got out with a "I am so sorry! I didn't realise I was too close to you! is your shoulder alright?", while I was kinda expecting an "you shouldn't be cycling near the middle of the road!" (which I kinda was since there were car parking and I was going fast, better to have a good distance from the parked car and myself to avoid door opening unexpected), especially considering this women is a posh 30-something mother in an huge expensive Ford (those performance MPV bollocks). I was rather happy to see that respond, that before we parted, I thanked her for being concerned. | |

| | I have to say, anytime I run into a kid, wherever it may be, they always seem to brighten up my day. I was at the record store the other day and there was a little girl wandering around wearing a little paper crown, when she approached me, and not even shy or hesitant gives me a little tap and says "wanna wear my princess crown?" So I did, she smiled and said "I like it" So simple. If only we could all be happy wearing paper princess crowns. |

| | (time to resurrect the happy thread) i was sitting behind a white van at a junction the other day, he hadn't indicated which way he was going so i stayed behind and then we looked at each other through his side mirror and i signed "which way?", he smiled and indicated, i signed "cool". We smiled again. A great moment. |

| | On topic with squirrels - I saw two juvenille squirrels chasing each other up, down and across trees at the station this morning for at least 10min. It was spellbinding..... .... and even better, as I approached the office, I smacked a hobo with my umbrella and dashed some change in his face. Good times. |

| | resurrection post. This morning riding from sloane square to knightsbridge, van parked up, doors at the back open and taking up a bit of the road, front of the van pointed towards me, still about five/ten metres away, giving it a bit of a wide birth so I can avoid the doors, man steps round the doors, sees me and flings himself against the side of the van, screaming as if I was a bus which had just passed inches away from him. Comedy slapstick moment. Pissed myself laughing, and so did he. It made my day, which was already bright even brighter.... |

| | Riding along the Oxford Road in Manchester a few days ago a car pulls up beside me at about my pace and winds the window down. Load of lads in the car and I'm expecting some cyclist/tight jeans/bald head-based abuse. All I got was: "Nice bike!" "Yeah, cycling is cool" And they drove off. I really didn't understand it. They seemed really sincere. I even got some thumbs up from the back. Weird. |
