well, he's not really going straight, is he.. he's going to prison. if it was a story about him getting out of prison and vowing to turn over a new leaf, then your thread title would be apt and therefore amusing.

*sigh*
The ellipsis in the title was a substitute for the words 'to prison' and also a play on the fact that his incarceration might well cause him to reflect on the poor life-choices he has made and that hopefully he will learn the error of his ways.

Thanks for the comedic tip though - it's been great...

I thought the "straight" bit was also about the hair tongs - straightening the hair of punters, no?

Of course, that was a given. I didn't think anyone would need that bit explaining to them.

yes, of course it was..

but i felt, personally, that the phrase 'going straight' usually refers to a an ex-con turning over a new leaf. i thought that this was the play on words attempted, in juxtaposition with the hair-straightening refernce.

Huh, well Stuart Little wasn't exactly a side-splitter was it?
So while I take on board the validity of his observation, he can still shove his Pulitzer Prize up his arse, the smarmy dead yank...

it could, of course, also be a reference to the fact that, once in prison, he will be assessed for potential botty action by fellow inmates and, at that point, may be anything but straight. This stereotype of inmate sexual solutions then goes hand in hand with - and works against - the stereotype of the effete hairdresser.

really - quite marvellously comedic, this word.
