was in a bus lane with a bus behind me, to an extent perhaps it was my fault i presumed the bus was stopping at the stop...
i was pulling out of the bus lane to the left side of the normal lane as there were parked cars after the bus stop, as i do so the bus seems to not be stopping and is accelerating to overtake me, prick dont realise where i am or sumthing i guess an the bus's left indicator area hits me off my bike sideways into the ground and bus lane then bus driver doesnt kno wat to do an tries to drive off but loads of people in the street blocking it and askin if i was ok
was really shook up, took the number plate but forgot as i must have been shaken up
no bad injuries jus lots of lil cuts on my knees an stuff
cud have been sooo much worse

even so, bus driver has to give you space, and if you're in front then there's no excuse for not seeing the rider.

Omg, is your bike all right??!!

On a more serious note... glad to hear you're ok. I had my first bike-versus-car accident last week (their fault, not mine), no major harm done, just some scrapes and bruises, but enough to give me the "happy to be alive" euphoria.

hmm i was wondering if it was my fault but i dnt get how it could have...
the bus was quite a way behind me and there was more then enough room for the bus to pass by, on a 2 lane wide road. the bus definatly saw me and i wasnt going fast at all really
it only jus clipped me side on as the guy was accelerating as he tried to overtake me which he didnt relaly need to do at that point

i never assume anything with buses or any other large vehicles.

bottom line, you had an accident and are fine.

I guess it depends on how long were you riding in the normal lane before the bus clipped you.

If it happened as you were changing from the bus lane to the normal lane, and the bus was already in the normal lane, then it's your fault.

If you'd already been in the normal lane for a while, with the bus behind you, and he was merely trying to overtake, then it's his fault.

if im right we were both moving from bus lane to normal lane at the same time because i looked behind me jus before i choose to change lane an the bus was in the bus lane so i then went to go into the normal lane and i guess the bus must have done the same?

Glad you're OK dude.

Legally, if someone hits you from behind in that situation, it's their fault - they should be fucking looking out for you, giving you space, etc.

Realistically, being legally right isn't going to help if you're hurt. None of us were there except you, so we don't know the full situation. As Dogs said, bottom line is you're OK. Hope it never happens again!

wow, really harsh comments here. Road rules: If you are behind and/or overtaking and you hit something it is your fault 99.9% of the time.

yep, maybe dude was a numpty in the "we know better than assuming the best from large vehicles" department, but legally it sounds like it was the bus man's fault and the fact that he tried to drive off if totally and utterly disgusting and deplorable and bus man should be chainwhipped on site just for that.
Nosferatu, you should prosecute, as like it or not it is now your duty to keep the rest of us safe from bad driver guy.
Please go here.

Nosferatu, based on what you've put written here, that collision is the fault of the bus driver. Unless there are specific mitigating circumstances, for which public carriage companies are insured anyway, and you weren't riding very erratically, you had right of way and he should have anticipated/reacted to your movements.
Furthermore, and I can't stress this enough, he commited the more serious act of attempting to leave the scene of an accident. It's only by sheer circumstance that he was unsuccessful.
Two crimes for the price of one. This really should be reported. I realise that the process is tedious and arduous but really quite important. The police and authorities know full well that a lot of seemingly minor incidents go unreported and use that to their advantage.

FUCK OFF!
If you ride in the bus/cycle lane even 20mph+ loads of cunt bus drivers still tailgate in a really intimidating fashion day or night.
Now when you try to get out of the bus lane they're hitting you in the NON BUS LANE!?!?!!
What the fuck happened to common sense i.e. I see parked cars up ahead in OUR lane and there's someone in front of me that has equal right to be in this lane?
<<bus driver thoughts>>
I AM 99% SURE THIS CYCLIST HAS NOT:
  • HARNESSED CLOAKING TECHNOLOGY
  • HE DOESN'T HAVE JET PACKS IN HIS FRONT FORKS AND SEAT STAYS (plus the lack of confederate flag means he can't be EVIL KENEVIL)....
So fuck it I'll take the non bus lane, hit the accelerator and keep going. Then to pretend he didn't know or see what he hit? I've stood next bus drivers and the slightest nik/bump is heard clearly throughout the buses fibreglass/alu body and the driver spends time looking in his mirrors trying to check what might have HIT HIM. In this case it sounds like he knew and chose to ignore. Why the fuck would he be out the bus lane in the first place?!?!?!

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

<<game show host>>"John!"

<<John>>"' er, cos there was something else there?"

Queue ticker tape and winning music

bottom line (assuming the story given by nosferatu has a decent amount of objectivity to it) the driver has been a TOTAL FUCKING CUNT for trying to ignore it and should face having a giant book thrown at him.

If the driver had a relative involved in a hit and run we'd rightly see him in an appeal sniveling on BBC local news.

However if nosferatu was in the left of the bus lane and then suddenly swerved into the non bus lane then

Nosferatu, I am so glad you are ok.

It was the bus driver's fault without any doubt and this is a serious fault from the driver. You were ahead, there was obstructions in the lane obviously you were going to swerve and he didn't have space to overtake you.

What happened after the accident? Did the bus driver stop eventually? Was the police involved? Do you have names and addresses of witnesses.

This needs to be reported to the police and TfL. TfL takes those accidents very seriously. If the driver was trying to leave maybe he has been in trouble before.

Dogs, I can't believe you wrote this. Was he supposed to wait patiently behind the parked cars for ALL the traffic to pass? Or better, push his bike to the next cycle path or take the bus??

Mr Grooves, you are attempting to step into the mind of the bus driver!?! you have no idea what was going through his head. noisy passenger, car coming over his right shoulder, that parked car, the cyclist.
Agreed the bus driver was a cock, showed really bad judgment, but like everyone else on the road this fella had 100 things going through his mind and a situation to deal with. he didn't intend it.

Fact remains as cyclists our mistakes are more costly.
To be fair this is an everyday situation, and throwing sticks at the bus driver is great but will it stop it happening again? You got to ride that aggressive/defensive line

@Nosferatu - Did you look over your shoulder when you realised you had to pull out and when you had to move?
Could you have avoided it? i'e pull out earlier and quicker and right in his eye line, or hold behind the car till the bus has passed?

haha i dont mind the harsh comments, umm i looked jus before i decided to pull out the lane obvi as i always do i dont have no death wishes, and i had no clue the bus was overtaking me i thought it was gna stop at the bus stop which i dnt get why he never did? im guessin he wasnt gna stop an was gna speed away not realising how near he was to me? and then wen it hit me i really was clueless as i went flying untill i saw a bus an then was like wtf!
the guy eventually opened the bus doors n kinda came out his area thiingg, but he was sum old turkish guy who was shaking, i jus think he was seriously confused what jus happened, and loads of people were running over shouting at him, i was too shaken up as ive said to remember the bus number or lisense plate, nor am i too fussed, it doubt it was intentional jus a stupid mistake which i hope we both learnt from equally.

Firstly, I'll leave the relax to FRANKIE goes2 bollywood (or where ever the fuck he went.)

If you, as the pilot of an aeroplane are not fit to fly it due to, say, alcohol in your system you are IMMEDIATELY placed under arrest.

If you're mentally not up to it then you ARE NOT PERMITTED TO FLY IT.
(google the recent co pilot that had a break down before take off)

Surely the whole point of a successful public transport system is to HAVE PASSENGERS!!!! (Unless of course that is, if he only stops at the bus stops for dumb [silent not stupid] passengers who do not make any noise and mess with his concentration).
NB He is a trained bus driver

If he has already navigated his way out of the bus lane what the fuck has he got to concentrate on apart from driving forward!?!?! Its not as if there are cars/truck/hgv's to navigate with to get back into the bus lane.

Here's the bit that sticks in my throat:
99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999% I see bus drivers giving way to fellow bus drivers about to get stuck in a blocked cycle lane.

In this situation he wouldn't even have had to have stopped, just move over a little.

WHAT KIND OF A FUCKING DOSILE CUNT DOESN'T TRY TO PUT THEMSELVES INTO THE SHOES OF THE OTHER IN/DURING/AFTER THE EVENT OF CONFRONTATION?
I'm merely trying to apply logic and get a much more rounded point of view- AM I THE IDIOT? From what I can see the only things on the mind the driver were:
  • a) nothing to do with driving the bus or
  • b) just PURE AND SIMPLE SELLFISHNESS.

Would you say the same if our rider had been smashed in the rear window of a parked car? ending in severed arteries in his head/neck/chest arms? if it were us, LFGSS that had to do the slow singing and flower bringing all dressed in black?

How about if your loved one had swiped their oyster and was a passenger on the bus with a driver who was known not to be mentally up to it and decided to crash the bus?

Im getting really pissed off with all of this, so no fucking jokes my fucking way.
