Classic Tyres - any ideas?

Hi all.

Can anyone educate me about classic tyres for a vintage track bike? I'm not talking about those white or pink tyres but nice Italian (?) track tyres I can use on my normal - mavic - rims on a nice classic build.

Cheers!
Jon

Veloflex was formed by some ex-Vittoria employees when they (Vittoria) moved production to Thailand.

Another alternative, but which are harder to find, are Deda Tre. A friend of mine, who only uses tubs, swears by them. Condor are sporadic stockists.

Shit never heard of sporadic tyres, do they do clinchers?

Ha. They clinch when they can be arsed, which is infrequently. Hence the name.

Yeh, Veloflex all the way, easily the best tyres I've ever had, been using them for nearly ten years. Frankly I'd marry them were it legal. Sadly they don't seem to come in a little tin like they used to. Incidentally I had a pair of Gomme Italia once which were identical and also came in a little tin; the same manufacturer as far as I could tell.

Using veloflex paves, they are great, gumwall for the classic look, super sticky in the dry, not to bad in the wet.

If I ever have children the first will be called Velo and the second Flex. I REALLY like those tyres.

I heard veloflex don't last too long, any experience to the contrary? How long/mileage are people getting out of them?

I would personally trust Will on this one, doing the most miles also(most likely) the most experienced.
Since they are handmade I would think they are hard to get. Would anyone like to inform me of the contrary or where to get them?

too soft and light for work but the best I have used for training, racing, leisure. They are a top quality lightweight racing tyre and work as such. I got my most recent pair from Ribble 6 months ago.

I got my Velofloex tubs form Geoffrey Butler in Croydon and the pair before that from the Ebay.

Thanks Will, so a set of paves would be good for a 30 mile round trip commute over reasonable roads?
