Cycling trips abroad

Just wondering what the furthest point from the UK anyone has ridden to on their bikes continuously. Ferries across the channel allowed but no other types of transport allowed ? No jumping on trains etc.

I just got back from a real nice trip to Denmark. London - Dover, Calais up through France Belgium Holland Germany all under cycle power and finished at the German / Danish border. Then train back through Germany back across Holland Belgium and France finished up in Dunkerque. Got back Monday. Only just into Denmark but Denmark none the less. I don't know the distance in miles but I will try and work it out soon. Spent about three weeks diddling around. Met friends in Amsterdam watched Liverpool play Liege in Liege. Didn't see a hill for two weeks coastal Holland and Belgium are beautiful for cycling.

Not quite the story you're after, but 15 years ago my brother took his bike (plus 1 man tent, etc) on a flight to Rome. His plan was to ride ino France then across Spain before coming home.

On his third day in Pisa someone stole his bike while he was getting some money out of the bank! The first we knew about it was when Weymouth Police station rang asking if someone in our family could hand in money to the local station so they could hand my brother the same amount so he could get home. Poor loser!

Apparently, while walking back to the camp site, he flagged down an English trucker who ended up giving him a lift through France to Saint Malo then across the Channel.

Hey - could you throw up a map of your route if you happen to knock one up?

Haven't done much on the continent, am planning to cycle to the south of France in September though, and am hoping to do some long weekend jaunts to various places as and when the weather permits...

I left Ealing and cycled for 4 months.. France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and back. Used the train for a couple of bits in Germany and did a side trip with a friend to Switzerland. I wish I had 6 months free time now for some cycle touring.
