Bike parking

Dear all,

interested to know if there are any action groups etc to try and get better facilities for cyclists in London. If yu know who to peak to, please post it here. :)

I'm not talking about those daft cycle lanes either...since they're more of a hazard than a help....no, I'm talking about fairly basic stuff like some dedicated and secure places to lock bikes up. I've noted on too many an occasion now, getting into the centre of town and having to drift about for 20 mins looking for a place that is secure enough to lock my gike to and that hasn't got a sign up saying:

"bicycles locked to these railings will be removed"

There are indead a few places floating about dedicated for bikes to lock to, but they are almost always fully used. More facilities are required and guidance from cyclists on where to put the things is needed!

LCC and their borough groups are the most involved in pursuing the relevant local authorities for better facilities of all description. Have you tried contacting the council in question? They don't send out death squads any more.

drift around for 20 mins? when i was a messenger last year, with just a min d in the center all day it never took me more than 5 seconds to find a place, and lock my bike. you just need some glasses.

ok, 20 mins is an exageration....but in the evenings, in the centre of town, you end up havnig to lock it to some scafolding somewhere down a dark alley...not highly satisfactory!

Maybe I don't spend enough time in the really popular and really central spots, but I haven't encountered any problems.

I'm quite paranoid, so I'm willing to walk an extra 5 minutes to wherever it is I'm going, just for the sake of leaving my bike locked to a proper stand in a nicer neighborhood (e.g. leave my bike in St James Square and walk to Piccadilly Circus).

I use these 2 maps to locate where proper inverted-U cycle stands are:

City of Westminster (official):

Borough of Camden (unofficial):

Love their banner:

Kind of how I always imagined the FGSS banner would be eventually...

Hey - I'm off to see the band Trans Am at Corsica Studios (Elephant & Castle) tomorrow night.

I'd like to cycle there - but don't wanna leave my bike locked up on or near that busy main road. Does anyone know if Corsica has a parking facility?

Cheers!

...yeah, they're not picking up. Will keep trying - but I thought someone here might have been to Corsica before.

I ride at black framed BLB frame with orange Velocity rims and bullhorns. And fixed of course :)

Its very similar to the 11th one down on the left had side:

I won't leave it locked inside. I was hoping Corsica might have an in-door room for bikes or something.

Just spoke to Corsica: no bikes inside unfortunately and they're just behind that pink shopping centre.

Public transport for me . I hate not cycling :(
