Yes, I was talking to the same guy yesterday. Understandably, totally fucked off. Somehow feels worse because the twat thief had to be so pre-prepared.

Note to all - get your bikes insured. It takes some of the stress out of leaving them locked up.

How the hell do you stop someone nicking your BB? (Apart from the obvious never-leave-your-bike-anywhere-ever tactic)

i can't quite believe this still goes on. the pub must know about it and surely want to do something about it, unless they are complicit in some way.

True. A lot of policies also won't cover acts of vandalism that don't completely wreck the bike (i.e. frame). You have to ask a lot of specific questions when buying a policy.

LIke so many other people in this country, I would imagine that the pub just doesn't want to get involved in something that it isn't involved in. All they care about is selling beer in which to drown your sorrows.

the pub is involved in it, whether they like it or not. and any pretensions towards fulfilling a social a role a totally undermined by their complicity in larceny. bikes are being stolen from inside their front garden, repeatedly, night after night. thieves are coming along with crank pullers and ratchet sets, taking the time to remove cranksets, lift out parts. they know this is going on. they haven't even put up a warning sign.

Sucks nevertheless.

I remember an Insurance thread of yesteryear, too wired from all that red bull to use the search but I remember someone saying they changed to MoreThan insurance as it covered bits stolen, with an excess

Thers's are market there for bike specific locking bolts, like you get on car alloys. They could be used all over a bike: wheels/seatpost/cranks (and therefore protecting BB) Unless someone has already invented it..........

well the pub owners stance is " I dont give a shit about their bikes" when someone asked him to put camera or something outside..........
and one guy who works there had just his front brake nicked when he went in for coupla seconds.......so the result is the gang lives near in the de beaviour estates and nick for someone who later uses the parts to build their own bikes and sells them....

Most recent i heard about the prince george is that the group which owns the pub has a policy against signs on the outside which is why they wont put up something about bikes... bit bizarre.

If the pub is so popular with cyclists, and parts pinching is so common.

Why does no one step in and make a scene when catching someone red -handed dismantling a bike?

I would never leave a nice looking bike locked around Hackney, unless I'm sitting next to it. I live there and never had a problem but I use my old racer to go around.

basically when building a beater you have to make it look really nasty. i converted a raleigh but it looks a bit too nice, still a bit nickable. going to have to trash it up a bit.

you have to really ride a pile of shit to the pub, unless you know there's safety in numbers. putting together a beater is harder than it looks.

why would you still drink there?
obviously the people that go there have bikes could you not ride another 5 mins to a safer pub?

Quick note re. insurance. If you insure your bike as part of houshold insurance cover, many companies will include stolen parts/damage. Plus it is a lot cheaper than stand alone bike insurance.

It's actually quite a nice, congenial pub that stays open late-ish.

But I don't go there so much as it's a bit of a walk from my place.

it's utter bollocks what goes on at the prince george. the security of my bike is just about top of the list when choosing a pub.

I reckon we should all post comments on beerintheevening and other pub websites. They'd start to think about bike security when everyone stops going there.

if by 'nice and congenial', you mean 'full of indolent scumbags with rich parents. can't cycle there because bike will get stolen when pub locks doors for late-ish drinking' then i'd have to agree.
