Ride Around Brands 2008

Last night I took part in the above event, a fundraiser for the local Swanley & North Downs Lions Club. I didn't mention it on the forum as I didn't really know what sort of event/ride it would be!

Basically you rode the GP section of the Brands Hatch circuit and not the main Indy circuit. Each lap was 1.4 miles in length and was very up and down! There were cyclists of all ages and ability, from kids on tricycles to full on club cyclists in their 60's. One chap had a lovely Colnago Classic, complete with spare tubs strapped to the underside of his saddle.

Despite being quite undulating, it would be a great fixed ride on an enclosed circuit, no traffic (except for mad ten year olds on BMX's!) and lovely smooth tarmac. We had an hour and 40 minutes track time during which I managed to complete 22 laps. Ths plus the ride there and back (including riding up Wrotham Hill, a lovely Alpine style gradiant without the switchbacks) meant I racked up 52 miles for the evening.

I'm definitely doing it next year, and I'll mention it on the forum if anyone else would be interested. All they ask is that you raise a minimum of £10 sponsorship.

Yeah, it was actually.

I rode with my brother and a friend, each lap took around 4 mins 30-45 secs, apart from one near the end that I rode TT style that took 3 mins 50 secs.
