Fitting a miche cog with carrier

So i am attempting to fit a miche track cog with carrier to a phil wood hub. I am asuming that the carrier goes behind the cog to space it away from the spokes. But when i tighten the lockring on it seems to bottom out before it tightens againt the cog. Meaning the cog is loose on its carrier.

Has any one had this problem before? Do i need a spacer between the carrier and the cog?

I run miche cogs on miche hubs and I've not had any looseness or lock-ring-bottoming-out problems. It sounds like a hub issue with the Phils. Super extra long thread section on the Phils?

The cog sits on the carrier. If might need a spacer on the threading before the cog/carrier.

Ah...what size cog 1/8" or 3/32"? The carriers are all sized for 1/8" I think.....

Well then outside of my "super long Phil threads" theory...I'm out of ideas. Sorry EM - mine have been bulletproof and trouble-free.

Well yes, it is pretty apparent isn't it, but then your original post did seem a tad confused.

Clearly then, this is just an in-joke that I'm not aware of then...

Have you tried the inverted shim method? ;)

I don't get the carrier thing... what's the point of them?

Easier to swap out cogs without the danger of stripping threads.

The only downside is that their range of cog sizes is somewhat limited.

6 of one - half dozen of the other

Given that they where originally designed for the track, to fit on single sided miche hubs, it makes it easy to switch sizes between races. Something you would do 2 or 3 times in a days racing, for wind conditions, race type etc.

Edit: What they said

i'm afraid to say, i agree with flickwg. FWIW use a EAI superstar shiny one or phil. last thing you want is to fuck the threads on a phil.

there was one of these things on my roberts when I got it (loosely installed, which brought about my immediate dislike of them)

so if your lockring fails or comes undone, you're fucked. finished. kapput, goodnight vienna.

cos the cog falls off, not like a proper one where it'll still hopefully stay on (and at the track you don't skidstop or back pedal) for long enough for you to come to a halt without dying of death.

so, that said. I have a 16tooth one and carrier and miche lockring going for a song if anyone wants it.
