Just bought this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=300241598882

Slight impulse buy, but I was looking for good tubing..columbus SL is pretty good right? Looks like it's got fairly angular geometry.

Do you think i'll find it easy getting bits for this? and have I missed anything major?

Cheers

Got yourself a bargain there, Graham's shop is just a few miles away from me but I'm not sure that he's still trading...

Apparently it has a 1” steerer tube
70mm x Ø35mm BB

Are these pretty standard for finding BB and forks? I've got a stem and bars but not sure if it'll fit..

Looking forward to converting it greatly!

Nice frame. What type of stem do you have? You need to choose threaded or threadless forks to match your stem, then go from there. Make sure the steering tube is long enough for the frame, more is good. You will need to take out the cups from the headtube before you fit your new headset.

I've just got an SR stem

same as this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HANDLEBAR-STEM...6.c0.m14.l1318

Which way should I go with forks? threaded or unthreaded?

So that'll be ISO 1" headset for threaded forks, and the forks themselves. Cheers for your help.

Frame arrived and I don't think it's columbus tubing, weighs 2.5kg. It's also pretty chipped and threads on BB and the dropout adjuster pins are abit knackred. I'm not sure whether this means I should be able to contest the listing, any idea on this?

There's Columbus tubing and Columbus tubing - they make some pretty low-end stuff as well as the superlight. Sounds like normal wear and tear to me - you could always sell it on if you're unhappy. I doubt that you'd lose money on it...

not really. not for under £50. if you're going fixed then you'll be taking out the dropout pins anyway. it probably is columbus, i couldn't imagine what else graham weigh would be using, reynolds aside. get the BB threads chased through.

just build it.

Hmm, probably true... I did think SL was pretty high end. Will see what the seller says, might re-list or post on here if get no joy. It's not a bad frame, but I was hoping for something a larger step up from my current beasty.

I have a columbus cromor frame, weighs a ton.

Buts its super stiff and makes for a 'trackier' ride. Still lighter than a off the peg charge plug/bowery though when built up.

Found a good chart:

http://equusbicycle.com/bike/columbus/columbuschart.htm

oh, and if you are buying threaded forks for your frame, try to get the exact size necessary. As if its too long you will have to get the steerer sawn off, which may leave you with not enough thread to fit headset.

Hmm, they suggest 1.9kg for the frame (with forks) mine came in at 2.4kg without forks, so i'm pretty sure it can't be SL. Still waiting to hear back from the seller.

Great, the seller is refunding £17 of my purchase, as he doesn't want the frame back and it's probably worth something in itself.

But your weighing it with headset cups and shimano BB?

They suggest 1.9 for the frame set, add lugs, BB shell, dropouts, brave ons and paint to that.

If you want a light frame buy aluminium or carbon, if you want a light bike, save weight on wheels, tires, saddle, bars, you can easy save a kilo or 2 on those bits.

Can't see why it wouldn't be sl, check which tubes are butted and double butted then match it up if it matter to you that much

removed top headset cup and BB before weighing. Your right about the weight gains on other parts, hopefully be able to make it up nicely.

if it is fully chromed under the paint, it will add a lot to weight as well ;)
