| | I may be being paranoid... ...but after going out for a fag break i noticed that someone's locked what can only be described as a junk bike on the other side of the railing to my beloved whip and blatantly looped their lock around my top tube, locking my bike to the railings and their bike as well... An honest mistake, or a not-so-subtle attempt to make me leave my bike overnight and angle grind my locks? Last edited by mongrel; 13th August 2008 at 11:09.. Reason: weird formatting |

Can you get hold of an angle grinder and extension lead? If so, cut the lock off and leave a note. I wouldn't go to the trouble of putting another lock on his/her bike, cos that'll only get cut too.

I'm a law abiding citizen and my first instinct is to inform the authorities. You are quite right though and depending where it is locked up, i suggest bolt cutters as darkness falls and retrospective note if you get through.

| | I heard this was a trick used by bike thieves to make you leave your bike overnight, either that or a total dumbass. I'm inclined to go with the 'cut his lock and free your bike' option. He/she wont do that again if it's an innocent mistake, plus u get your trusted steed back. Good luck whatever you decide. Interested to see what happens. |

| | i agree except for the part about locking their bike back up with your lock. if it is dodgy they'll cut your lock off the bait-bike just to spite you for blowing their plans. then you've essentially wasted two decent locks (potential value £200+) for the sake of making safe one crappy old beater (potential value £30) that was probably stolen and only being used as bait anyway. of course if it is a genuine mistake then... harsh but fair i'd say. can't you get hold of some £5 pos halfords lock and leave the junk bikle locked up with that? that or just leave it unlocked with a note i say. hope it doesn't come to that tho. a. |

| | On the one hand, there's colour-matching of Object proportions going on (even the back of the front reflector matches the frame) - so maybe it's a 'real person's' bike. On the other hand, they've had to loop the chain up from the level of their step-through top-tube, in order to entwine your top-tube. That seems deliberate, or they're pushing the fuckwit envelope. |
