| | Is the alias thing getting out of hand? It's been pointed out by a member or two that recently there has been a rash of aliases as people make jokes and create members to push the joke further and so on. Except what was once funny now is fuel to the trolls and to those taking jokes too far. My question: Is there a problem? If there is, tell me what it is. I'm happy to think about various ways to solve any perceived problem with aliases. Be it outing them and making aliases visible, to banning aliases, or doing nothing at all. Anyhow... what's up? |

| | out them. was funny for a little while but i now see it as a waste of time. the problem is, it turns to a 'boy who cried wolf' situation. we get newbies coming in for some technical knowhow. but because others fcked around with aliases, people dont bother giving serious/helpful advise anymore or worse flame the newbie. |

| | I originally created stoopsombitch when i thought as my current self, i wouldnt get serious answers as shinscar... if you check stoops original posts he asked some very sensible questions! But then i shared the password with 2 other members of the forum who might prosper from having another sensible way of communicating with members within this forum, without knowing who they were......... unfortunately we took this for granted the character stoop was too much of a personality, the very nature of his name lead us too stupidity.... hence RIP stoopsombitch. | | personally, the alias thing is just annoying, in the first instance it can be funny, but now I can't figure out who are the trolls and who are the aliases, I don't understand why you create an alias to act like a troll, when trolls just make the forum a more confusing, contentious, and to a certain extent boring place. Personally I'd either ban them all, or allow one alias per user if they feel the need to create another persona. |

| | the only one i really like is "That shit's fucked up", because it was funny and doesn't hurt anyone. It's not me, I don't know or care who it is. But the myriad alias users that have offended or belittled people or groups of people are just out of order. I wouldn't know the best way technically of managing this. You can't really restrict by IP or cookies etc, cos some people on here share computers or use one at home and one at work etc. Is there any other way you can control this VB? |

| | can it not be limited to a certain number of accounts per ip address, btw i know little about if this would work or check to see if they have the same email and limit to one per email, and just ban them, it's not funny if there are loads of people just being annoyed by them and i believe shin has more than just one alias |

| | Oh, I know who people are... but should you all know? Is there a need to allow semi-private accounts (aliases) in case people need to post with some (public) anonymity? Or is the current state leading to a bit of a mess and although no need for semi-private accounts (beyond just not using your real name as your username) has arisen it's better to stem the tide of aliases than leave the ability open? |
