The Tweed Cycling Club

Jonny this looks right up your street!

Sample quote:

Bicycles

Most recognise that bicycle technology reached its pinnacle in the early 1970s and everything since has been marketing. Millions are spent every year on hoodwinking the public with obscure materials which are all very if you are constructing a craft to convey astronauts to the Moon, but quite out of place on an English country lane. Lugged steel, by contrast, is durable, comfortable and offers an opportunity for the skilled framebuilder to practice his craft. Why spend a king's ransom on the latest titanium confection when any weight advantage will be rendered irrelevant by a cheese-and-pickle sandwich and a thermos of soup?

it certainly does.

another somewhat pointless use of webspace.

something tells me that searching the BCF list of cycling clubs for "the tweed cycling club" would be fruitless

I liked the old film about getting the train to Rugby and finding your common humanity whilst listening to the hum of the tyres and joining the conversation that arises "between solicitor and carpenter, teacher and typesetter, electrician and radiographer," regardless of "rank or station".

actually that film is brilliant.

despite the "derailer" chat, most of them are on fixed, forget the "tweed" angle of dafoney's stupid site, those riders are just wearing regular clobber of the time, basically like us.

except they ride in a bunch a fuck's sight better than this forum does.
