Pedal Threads

Just tried to fit my shimano spd pedals into a Sakae SR crankset that came with my new purchase. They don't fit. Have put the old Maillard quill pedals that came with it back in (fit fine).

Does anyone know what type of thread the Sakae/Maillards are likely to be and whether there are spd pedals that fit?

Just checking - you do know the left-hand pedal has a reverse thread ie. anti-clockwise to tighten?

stop.

You could be damaging your threads!

Look at the end of the spindles, they will usually be stamped L & R

When screwing them in, they should go in by HAND. If you have to use a spanner to get the first bit in, then you are doing it wrong.

Trouble is, the spd's from my commuter don't go in by hand (obv. the maillard pedals do...). I'm hoping that I don't have to replace the crankset (?and bb); would prefer to be able to fix the pedal issue.

sounds like the maillard pedals were forced into the SR cranks and have changed the threading. as SR are japanese and would be normal english threading.

Pffffffff; guess this means that the bike has to be relegated to the just popping down to the shops, going out with the kids type thing :-(

Will take it down to Stefano at Strattons and see if he can machine something.
