Fitting a BMX Brake lever on to 26.0 bars

Howdee,

I'm interested in fitting some Dia Compe BMX brake levers to a 26.0 handlebar.

So attaching this:

To this:

Es possib-le? Obviously the clamp size on the lever is much smaller 22.0, is there a way of getting around this. Or how is a BMX lever attached to a 26.0 handlebar.

Nice.

EDit: Just read the question again, have you actually tried this yet? Your will find it fits perfectly to the 26mm bulge.

Na, I was looking for confirmation either way before I purchased a brake lever.

I see what you mean though, the bulge is 26.0, would the rest of the bar then be 22.0?

I dunno like, i have 2 bmx levers attached to 2 different handlebars, both 26mm clamp (the bars) and neither fit. I had to file out the centre of the lever clamp to get them on there.

the leavers come with a two piece shim so they will fit any bar

Its called a Dirt Harry, not dirty, and I believe its what they call purple, where is this 'mauve' of which you speak? :-)

Dirt Harry and Goldfinger both have really big, hinged opening and fit much wider bars than most of the tekro's and stuff, they come with shims for thinner bars

the newer dirt harry levers which are powder coated dont come with a shim and made with the smaller clamp size so im told, so unless you get one of those rare Negative Shims or a slightly older lever you may have probs.

The diacomp levers are really heavy duty and there's space inside the clamp to remove enough metal to make them fit. If you have them sanding drums in a pillar drill make the work easy.

Hey Gizmund, the levers i'm talking about must be the new model as the web site specifies 22.0 clamp.

I might just swerve these if i've got to start filling, although I' think the purple would go well with my conversion.

only 10 mins, doesn't sound bad. If it's that quick I'll give it ago, where did you get your rat?

File option is good. I've done it with a Dirt Harry and a 13mm parallel round file. You wouldn't know it wasn't bought like that

So does that Paul-E Lever have a larger clamp to fit road bars? I would get it if it was £40. How can it cost so much?
