| | Ball Buster Duathlon 8 mile run - 24 mile bike - 8 mile run, acheived by doing 5 laps of box hill in surrey. I've entered and currently training but wanted to ask advice on drinks of all things. I drink water when I train and kinda reasoned it would do me good in the long run compared with drinking isotonic stuff. rationale being I'm forcing my body to get good at using what it has instead of relying on taking on more sugar. I do plan to use isotonic stuff during the race and will probably eat a banana or a snickers too but am I limiting the value of my training by not taking on anymore sugar? or is my puritanical approach the better? (mentally and physically??!!) cheers |

| | basically the fluid in your body is slightly salty, as evidenced by when you sweat you loose water and salts. if you ingest straight water your body has to adjust it b4 it absorbs it. isotonic on the other hand is supposed to be the same salt concentration which means it can be absorbed immediately. i'd suggest trying the isotonic drinks in training and getting use to them. most stuff is best watered down a bit as its too strong. |

| | Hi CV, Def get some sort of isotonic/sports drinks and start using them in your training now. This is really tough event. You run the risk of cramping / bonking or both without the right nutrition. I use SIS Go, it seems to work for me, but maybe try a few and see which one is good for you. Good luck and enjoy it, its a great event. - J |
