Saw one of the funniest crashes ever last week, sitting at a set of red lights in Brixton, first pushbike pushes past me and through the red light, only to be collected by two others going the other way. PMSL bits of pushbike everywhere, no one really injured but they all blamed a bus driver and a black cab for "obscuring their view" no mention about running red lights.

You should be insured minimum 3rd party as a road user, not for your benefit but so everybody else has a comeback against your red light jumping and generally shit roadcraft.

ok now that the debate has pretty much finished and is into mindless insults can i say thanks for perpetuating the beleive that bikers are stupid and arrogent to others. it's taken a long time for those of us who are actually inteligent enough to try and get along with the rest of the world to push that image away from the biking fraternity and you just managed to damage that good work.

in all seriousness the problem is this:

a car driver does something stupid and dangerous. He hits another car, in the main, both cars are totalled, but everyone gets out and walks away.

a car driver does something stupid and dangerous. He hits a bike or motorcyclist. He walks away, cyclist / motorcyclist does not.

So, when another road user (bigger/faster/heavier) does something dangerous, it's not their own life they're gambling, it's the life of the (motor)cyclist.

It's not that they're wrong per se (though I would argue that the original poster found himself in a situation where the motorcyclist was wrong by deliberately attacking him) but that few other road users consider the fact that they're not really gambling their own lives but that of (motor)cyclists.
