Loving the single speeds - but what is a good buy?

Hi all,
I've seen some amazing looking bikes recently, and want to get in on the action.

However, my last bike was a 10 gear mountain bike which my Mum bought me for my birthday about 14 years ago.

Looking around on Gumtree etc I came across the bikes at http://singlespeed.angelfire.com which I have to say look frickin awesome.

My question is, are they any good? Are they good value?

Where else can I get good value single speeds?

cheers
J

Nice welcome BMMF!

Jamie, there's a very long post about those bikes. Its starts off bad and gets worse. Have a hunt for it using the search button above, and then look for 'OTP' and start reading...

Or come along to the barbecue on Sunday. Wait til everyone's drunk and then pinch all the bike jumble and construct a Frankenbike out of it.

Harsh!

Jamiec,
riding a bike because you like the way they look is not advisable, especially as you have not ridden for many years. I suggest popping down to a bike shop and trying out some of their single speed bikes before rushing in - search OTP (off the peg) on this forum. Also, if you are interested in fixed gear and single speed, it is far more rewarding to build your own by converting an old road bike - you get something unique and rewarding and build a great deal of knowledge....

... or if this is a wind up, fuck off

none taken.

There is no brand name for the people making those bikes, so searching yields no results. Nor does the domain name. I tried that already.

Thanks snowy_again, will look in to it now.

VB's site search is a bit flaky, but you could try this little known utility.

EDIT: Slow :(

seriously, go to a bike shop. gumtree is full of stolen bikes, and overpriced bikes made up from poor quality bits.
