36 Hole 700c rims, single chainset, brakes

Hello

Building bike up for my other half

Looking for a pair of 700c 36 hole rims (Mavic open sport or similar would do just fine), crank set with single chainring of 50T+ also a set of long ish reach (59mm + ) brake calipers - downward pull on the rear as it's a ladies bike.

Cheers

Pat

if anyone's got just the rims that'd be great - otherwise it's looking like a small fortune - other than more drilling why are 36h so much more expensive than 32h?
thanks..

there is NO reason that 36 should be more expensive than 32.

Rims sold in reputable shops, online and on the high street will have a book price for a rim, and then ask you if you want 36, 32 or 28 hole drilling. Some rims are even available in 40-48 for tandem use.

32h rims are slighty more common nowadays than 36, I believe due to the fact that most spokes and rims are better quality then they use to be. 36 used to be the standard for all basic bikes, but now its switched to 32. And racing bikes have moved to less & less all the way down to 16 spokes!

There is still a strong market for 36h 700c rims though, training bikes for road and especially track , cyclocross, touring, 29er mtb and more.

Anyplace that has a good price for 32h rims will do you the same in 36h unless they simply dont have stock.

Oh and a "downward pull brake" is no different from a regular one, you just undo the pinch bolt and barrel adjuster and switch their places.

About £26 for open pros, and about £22 for open sport. Is that too much?

well there you go, I never knew that about the brake; kind of obvious really, thanks for the info.

£22 isn't expensive, no, you're right but what I'm trying to do is build up a bike for as little as possible, out of 2nd hand parts if at all possible which is why I'm posting a 'wanted' on here.

Cheers
