Broken crank dust cover

one of the dust covers on my cranks has the top broken off it so cant screw it out using the normal method.

ive tried using pliers to unscrew it, but it just wont move.


its really driving me made now, i cant get the bugger out, has anyone got any ideas and how to get the stupid thing out?

screwdriver + hammer - tap it around.

it's a right bugger drilling cos it jams on the other side, where the bolt is and breaks off.
I should know i've been there done that.

Tynan has it right tho. if tapping doesn't do it, bang it !

i managed it by chipping it out with a screwdriver (its was plastic) and using the side of some pliers as a hammer. was still a bugger but brute force won in the end.

one of the hardest things i've done on a bike was removing a metal campag dust cover that had rounded the hex bit in the middle. major PITA!! hacked out bits one at a time with screw driver and hammer :O
