| | Wheelset advice (navigator) Just bought myself a navigator wheel set and am beginning to doubt my choice. I'm trying to make this build as cheap as I can and got a pretty good deal on the wheelset. The thing is it is 28 hole and I weigh 15 stone! (I just missed out on 36 hole wheelset and put a bid on these on the off-chance and won). I'm sure most would advise me not to even bother but realistically how well will they hold up? I ride on road and off curbs and stuff but don't really batter them. My last set of wheels (alex r500 32 hole) has lasted over a year remaining true until a spoke snapped yesterday sending them out of shape. I would imagine deep v navigator rims would be stronger than the alex r500 rims though. On another note. What cogs would people advise for use with the navigators? Not sure what thread they are. How much should I expect to pay to get a spoke replaced and the wheel trued on my old alex rear wheel? I'm in Liverpool so no need to point me in the direction of any london shops. Cheers! |

| | HI, I have a set of those wheels lol i got them on a bargain too, there fine for me and im 14st - the only bad thing about them is the hubs I managed to strip one side of the flip flop hub through riding but the other is fine I have a 16t cog on at the moment and had a 15t cog on the stripped side. They are meant for track use but i have hopped up and down curbs went down a few stairs and there still true. as for truing your old wheel, you should do it yourself and save a lot of money if you check out Sheldons site it will tell you about truing your wheel. all you need is a replacement spoke, expect to pay a quid at most and a few beers to see you through ;) * and a spoke key http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tooltips/truing.html Last edited by hael; 31st July 2008 at 16:05.. | | Did you get the pair off ebay with the velocity stickers on? How much did they go for in the end? I just got some and really like them, they come with 16t and 15t sprokets. Can't say much about their durability yet, but they have been fine over two weeks of londons finest pot holes with 13 &1/2 stone and a metric tonne of biachi pista frame on top, give me 23&1/2 months and I'll let you know how they hold up to 2 years abuse. | | I got them offebay for £120, unused and complete with innertubes and schwalbe ultremos (new) which retail at about £60 a pair. They had a mavic sticker on themwhich came straight off. Tend not to use my front brake much these days but I will definitely fit one on my new bike. Sure they will just eat through the paint after a while anyway. Don't like the sound of the threads stripping but I can't be that arsed really with the price I paid. Don't think I will replace the spoke on my old wheel. As much as I would like to I think it might be one of those things that is best left to the professionals with stands. Still, any idea how much I should be looking to pay my lbs? |
