New bike, creaking chain - normal?

tried searching for this, but nothing...

I know a new chain will stretch, but is a creaking sound normal? It's only noticeable when I'm accelerating slowly from a stationary position - as once I'm going it's fine (I think).

This is fixed steamroller, one week old, seen about 100 miles. I've had my ear to it, and pretty certain it's just the chain creaking/squeaking on the chain wheel.

Thanks.

Not much oil on the chain (I'm not quite sure how much fixed chains need compared to my normal road bike), but the cranks are well greased and the chain is tight (it's also straight out of Brixton Cycles, so I was hoping it was well set-up).

Sounds like its the cranks/chainring to me.

If the chain was creaking it'd do it on the back end too.

A lot of the entry level single speed cranks tend to creak, but check all your bolts are tight just to be sure.

just to hijack this thread a bit, how tight should crank bolts be? i read somewhere (prob sheldon) that you shouldn't keep tightening them over and over? preload???
my cranks/BB are creaking a bit.
just an idle question, i'll get myself over to sheldon/parktools this evening if no replies are forthcoming.

as you were.

I'll check the back end to be sure, but thanks.
