What is well confusing though is when people mix decimals with inches.

Who's going to peer down and binocular the ruler, to make sure you get the right millimetre? Inches, then round up. 8, 10, 12, 14....always sounds good. Millimetres? No way mate.

Both. I was taught mm at school, then when I left and went to work, most people were using inches (imperial). WTF!

the question should be metre or yard. The others are subdivisions.

+1 Where I'm working we're soon to make the switch to metric but the larger the measurement the quicker it is to take a reading in inches- 73 1/2" or 1867.25mm. (Don't check me on that)

i use the devonian unit of measurement, the 'yay'. as in:
