Budget cranks, which one would you go for?

Either the FSA @ £40 or the Condor Sugino @ £50, will it make a huge difference for my first fixed?

make a difference ? what u mean by that ?

if you have a converted triple or double, it will just mean you can have a narrower Q factor, and a cleaner look. Each to their own on that one.
Q factor IS important for comfort and delivery of power to the wheels. [lateral distance between your feet]
That is if you can achieve the corresponding chainline.

My q factor is too wide which is annoying for me.

If you're not too attached to it, knock the gear cable stop off the chain stay with a hammer and cut/grind the bosses off the downtube. other than that, I like it.

Alos look at the Andel Track Cranks that you can get from BLB for 55 quid and elswhere on tinternet, imo better than the sugino messangers/ fsa etc for the price:

• Black Anodized
• 165mm
• 46 tooth - 7075 T6 alloy CNC machined
• Crankbolts included
• Cold Forged crank arms
• Crankarms weigh 586 grams, chainring weighs 114. Total = 700g
• 144 bolt circle

I had em on my old Langster

the andel look a lot like the on-one cranks to me:

which makes me think they are OEM.

Nothing wrong with OEM stuff of course, but it should be a lot cheaper than Sugino a Japanese company who have been making BMX & Track cranks for a very long time.

Plus I think they look waaay nicer.

Yup i have seen em marketed under various different brands too - i just really like em, nothing quantifiable, just felt nice and strong. Agree the Condor Suginos look alot nicer though.

All bike parts are made in Taiwan and badged to say whatever the punter wants to hear. The end.

For example, "Colnago" is the name of a small province south-east of Taipei.

im pretty sure Sugino still make there stuff in Japan.

Nothing wrong with Taiwan, they have the greatest cycle manufacturing capability in the world. Its just that most companies/brands that go to them are usually only looking for a big profit margin. Its sad that so many respectable companies are just labelling off the rack stuff, what happened to unique design?

I test rode a Giant Bowery today because I was bored.

It had FSA vero cranks on it which I have previously spoken up for saying they look good, and FSA make a lot of good stuff.

But really, they are nothing like what I expected. The are horrible, look well flimsy, have lots of manufacturing traces, where you can see how bits where forged/pressed.

The new test bike i rode already had rusty chainring bolts. The chainring looked dirt cheap and rough as fuck.

The bottom bracket felt sluggish and flexy at the same time.

not impressed. My 1970 town bike sugino's with pressed on/integrated steel chainring and tange looseball BB which I have on my current bike felt waaaay better.

Trust me, I'm trying to get it on the road but the shifts I'm doing are killing me, hence the reason I'm posting at 2 in the morning!!!

FSA vero are shit, the threading for both the pedal axles and the crank puller are pathetic.
