-1 for plan b

It's over 21s :(

It looked awesome until I read that bit on their web site.

Other than that, Brixton is now where I'm going to focus my search.

Cheers all for comments :) Keep them coming if you have more...

If you want some more peace and quiet and can stand 10 minutes extra for public transport commute, then Streatham Common, being less trendy than Brixton, is pretty cheap by comparison and a lot "quieter". Nice parks, some decent pubs and Brixton or Balham are both only 10 minutes away if you want to go there. Night Buses go straight through as well so you have 24 hour transport. The downside is no tube.

The fridge lost its license about 4 months back. S'been bought by Goldfrate, so will be turned into something else (flats, shops etc.) before long.

Yeah too much coke dealing and the 5-0 moved in - last time I went there was when my mate was djing the chill out room. The main room was a happy hard house night which seems to be popular with some kind of south east asian gangsters. Cue lots of moody looking dudes spooning coke all over the place, lots of aggro and serious bitch fights in the girls toilets. Was a pretty weird night.

There's a video of it on the South London Press website somewhere. Grim. Can't say I've ever liked the place in the last decade, it was all crap Return to Samsara and that euro trance thing.

I'm off to listen to some George Formby.

Yeah, really grim... I hear there are plans to change what's going on at Mass too... Not sure what, but the C of E appear to still have some say in what happens/who operates the venue... Watch this space...

Aye, the 'elders' of the church weren't too happy with the promoters and the related drugs / violence and were desperate to get any promoter in who didn't deal with their perceived 'urban' music. Hence the random Polish Reggae nights and more of the metal / goth nights that have been on for a while. Shame as I like that space and had some good nights in there.

To bring up this thread again...

Any particular parts that are bad and should definitely be avoided?

I seem to be finding quite a few properties in this area, along Brixton Hill.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...,0.054245&z=15

As I said, I've only been Brixton tube to Brixton Cycles so don't know. I would just get the train and look but I'm trying to get rid of my overdraft first!

Cheers.

I think it is nice around there. We cycled through some roads between the Hill and Kings Avenue last week and places looked nice.

Anyway, another beautiful curry place: Hop & Spice in Balham.

Duke of Edinburgh, nicest pub in Brixton, IMO. Huge beer garden too, although you have to go through the pub to get to it so you'd have to ask nicely to get bikes through

The exact bit you linked to is on the edge of a bit of an estate on Brixton Hill, so it might not be exactly what you want (look at the satellite view and see where it changes from old terrace to flat roof council block http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...,0.054245&z=15 )

The other side of Brixton Hill (around Beechdale and Endymion roads) is pretty nice and a few friends live there. There's a couple of okish places to eat and the Elm Park tavern is a fairly ok, slightly down at heel local pub. You'll probavly see some fairly cheap places on Josephine Avenue and I think that'd be ok, as long as you don't mind the fact that it's a bit of a red light district. I wouldn't live in a ground floow flat there though!

Bit of a random post there ^^ are you trying to reach your five?

Anyway, you can frequently find Teenslain there stalking Daisy Haggard and cracking out some smooth jazz licks. I don't like the effra's newish coat of crap paint.

She's much prettier in the flesh, I probably would... And the paint's alright, I still preferred it when it was split into two bars tho'...

I quite like the integrationist removal of the divider, but miss the dominos corner and the fact that the two bars had different vibes. The new coat of paint is a bit too property show neutral for me and I preferred it when there was a hole in the roof.

Random Brixton bar related question.

Is the Dogstar still live and kicking? Had some fun times there, and a lot of other times that I have absolutely no memory of.
