Shoe recommendations

wonder if people could give me some advice on cycling shoes - i currently ahve specialized comp road, but find i get numb toes on long rides. they're a bit wide, so I have to do them up pretty tight to get a good fit, but it puts too much pressure over the top of my foot...

my problem is basically that i have slim feet... any shoe companies you can recommend that suit slim footed peoples?? Or is it just a case of you get what you pay for?

thanks in advance.

+1 more.

I have low-volume feet and heartily recommend Sidi.

They fit small, so if you're shopping online maybe go a size up.

Apparently the cheaper Sidi's (not made in Italy) don't fit so well.

Dominators are the Daddy!

I'm a 43 normally but 44 in Sidi. The only thing close to fitting my narrow & flat feet, and even then I've got an extra insole in there in the summer (thinner socks), and the ratchet thing adjusted/cut off quite a lot.

Some things in life are beyond doubt, one of them being that Sidi are the best cycling shoes, irrespective of fitting issues.

+1 for the sidis too! Although try them out for the size, the "up one" strategy might not suit - I'm a slim 45 for normal shoes, and my sid's are 45 as well.

I just bought a pair of dominators in 43 after i tried them on in the shop, and they felt fine, but when i rode with them, they felt too small. grrr

now i have used them i cant take them back to get the size up.

If you are 43, you can take them off my hands for cheaper than retail (otherwise people will just buy brand new) let me know

but they seem to be pretty good

your welcome, but don't get dragons or eagles, they have replaceable soles, which A; are shit and do not last long.
B; very expensive to replace

dominators seem to last the best.

I'm going to disagree with 31trum - Domimator soles are slippy, and when they're dead, that's the end of the shoe. I like my Eagles, and if I have to spend £20 replacing the sole in 5 years' time, that's better than £120 for a new pair of shoes. And I don't want black cycling shoes :)

Geniuses were the best fitting pair of Sidi I ever owned, but that might just be luck of the draw. They're all sort of hand-made, so the manufacturing tolerances are 'human'. Geniuses won't work with 2-bolt pedal systems though, and even with weirdo adaptors, walking in them would be a nightmare.

all sidi's are handmade in italy except for the "freetime" non cycling shoes
the cheaper one's don't fit as well because there is less structure to the upper
or reinforcement in the heal area.
The cheaper sidi's are not amazing value it's not really till you get into the genius 5.1/dominator and above where sidi become really good.

Geniuses are great, they're absolutely the ones to go for if you're a roadie. The rubber pad on the heel allows you to walk around fine, assuming your cleat lets you!

What pedal do you use?

dura-ace. the cleats are OK to walk on in my current shoes, i'm assuming sidi are shimano compatible ?!

am i correct in thinking that the heel pad is replacable?

Love Sidis, gay advert on Eurosport though.

I have the same problem as murtle, BMMF. One of the rubber studs on the heal has broken off, murt has lost his, I have to keep glueing mine back on. Happened to me about a fortnight after buying them.

Was just about to ask about Sidis - but looks like I don't need to! What about if you've got abnormally wide feet though? Is there any brand that's particularly good, or should I just go up a size or two?

Sidi also do a wide version of their entire range - it's called Mega I think. The other recommendation I've heard for wide feet is Specialized.

As long as you're not looking for black Sidi Dominators in a size 46. They're really hard to find, especially new and in the box.

Who sells sidi's in central or west London? I am thinking I ought to go and try on a pair, and then buy off the internet unless a shop will do a price match.
