Newbie Seeking Advice - Is This Bike Any Good??

morning all

i'm a complete amateur in these circles, just to put my cards on the table. this is my first post - so Hello!

i'm looking to buy a singlespeed (i'm too lazy to build my own), but don't wanna get screwed over. i'll be riding it bout 20 miles a day around london, so want something that's worth the money.

i was gonna buy suming from singlespeed.angelfire.com, but you folks seem to have poo-pooed the fella pretty badly. d'you think this is a better bike (i've found it for 350 quid)...

heavy. a cheap taiwanese frame with a trendy bmx logo slapped on it.
if i had £350 to spend i would look elsewhere and maybe spend a little more on a plug/langster/filmore etc.

Howdee,

If you know youre gonna ride this thing everyday... get something you want to ride everyday... if that equates to this bike above...get it.

Like Mr. Smith says.......if i had to flip a 3 sided coin, I would get a plug.

someone on here bought on the other day. it looks ok. for riding round london the charge plug is pretty hard to beat.

Sadly SE Racing's "PK Ripper" seems so many worlds away and so many moons ago.

I used to get butterflies at that bike. Quadrangle too. Outrageous in those days.

Sniffle: It was I that recently got one as my first fixed, I've been riding it on my daily commute for about a month and I'm loving it. I can't compare it to other OTP SS bikes as I haven't riden others for any amount of time, but to me the Lager feels like a pretty decent bike for the monies. SE is now owned by Fuji Bikes if that means anything to anyone.

I think Stoopsombitch's advice is the best, try some bikes, see which you like the best for the cash you have available.

Oh and the trendy BMX logo comes off at the first sign of rain ;)

thanks for the help folks.

i acted pretty sharpish, tried out a lager, filmore and plug, and am now a proud owner of a plug.

anyone know how i can take the branding off? they aint transfers, so i'm guessing it would be tough. heard rumours about the wonders of lighter fluid - would that work?

also, can these bikes stand being left in the rain? not suming i'm planning to do, buy, you know..

cheers

newbie sniffle.

I think they're clearcoated on, which means they're a pain in the ass to get off without fcking everything else up.

You could always take it to armourtech and get a completely new powdercoated colour. I think that costs about £70.

Yeah, lacquered over, no chance. Oh, that shitting awful "Ghetto of Nunney Castle" bullshit on the chainstay! Good excuse never to clean your bike.
