As much as I have enjoyed following the tour some years ago, the last 3 tours have really pissed me off... I mean, if I want to see fake sports, I'll just watch some wrestling.
And I am starting to doubt anyone has won it doping-free ever...

This is so so bad, just when you think there might be a clean race this happens. How stupid are the riders and their doctors and team managers if they think they can get away with this, or gain anything by cheating.

Evans my cry, look like a bum faced muppet and suck wheel all over the place but at least he is clean.... (fingers crossed)

There's nothing fake about riding the TdF. They don't pretend to pedal very fast up big fucking mountains.

For the record, I don't give a shit. Pity they're stupid enough to get caught, but that's it. I've posted on this subject before, so won't bother elaborating.

Flame me.

Well, he did say he wanted to be like Pantani........

I don't get the sudden spate of EPO catches though... I thought the cheats mostly used it out of competition so it was gone from their systems by the time they raced. Maybe they developed a better test now? (if so, excellent)

There have been drug 'scandals' in the Tour since the very beginning. What is more surprising is that people seem to think it'll stop one day.

I think they are using a new variant of EPO, called CERA (Continuous Erythropoietin Receptor Activator) which I'm presuming hasn't been detectable up until now. Hence the sudden spate of positive tests.

@ dogmatic,
who was it that said you can't win the tour on bread and water alone. doping/taking drugs has been part of the tour since it started, its too hard for it not to be.
the doping thing doesn't upset me as much as it upsets others, because I just believe the nature of the tour, the difficulty of it, will always mean that riders will look to gain an advantage somewhere.
I thought Ricco's ride was superb, though obviously, this info puts it into perspective somewhat

Following from this argument, you will end up with genetically modified superhumans competing against eachother in the decades to come. Whats the point in that?

It could be argued that the dominance of Afro-American track athletes was due to a form of genetic modification. Due to suffering at the hands of enslavers for hundreds of years, it was only the very very strong who survived; and bred. The evolution of an entire ethnic group was tampered with by the actions of others.

Obviously a few gold medals don't really make up for the human rights travesties.

Drugs are a key player in the evolution of the species. Always have been, even before we synthesized them.

About EPO: indeed it's due to the fact that the 3rd gen EPO can now be detected that there are suddenly more positive cases.
There is talk of a 4th generation EPO which is basically a virus that is injected to the human body which then triggers the production of human EPO. Very hard to detect and -let's be honest- pretty scary.

could be ... but i am not too sure whether that argument is of any scientific substance. 200 years (10 generations) of biased selection is rather a blip in terms of human evolution.

the fact that you can insert and upregulate many proteins in animal models, makes me believe that genetic modification in humans is already on the go!
