Does anyone know if any London pubs will be showing the Tour?

I'm thinking of taking an afternoon off over the next 3 weeks to sit in a pub somewhere and watch a stage of the Tour whilst enjoying a drink or two.

Does anyone know of a pub somewhere central-ish that will be showing the race live? I'm sure there was one in Clerkenwell that did so last year but can't remember the name.

If anyone fancies joining me then I'm looking at one of the following 3 stages;

Stage 10 Monday July 14th - Pau to Hautacam
Stage 16 Tuesday July 22nd - Cuneo to Jausiers
Stage 17 Wednesday July 23rd - Embrun to Alpe d'Huez

Given that the stage finishes are generally just after 5pm - not the busiest of times in a pub - I'm sure that simply finding a bar with Eurosport and having a quick word with the barkeep would do the trick...

My flat will be showing the tour and supplying guests (me) with a fine selection of Belgian beer and snacks throughout its duration. ;)

andyp: I'm always up for skipping work so would be up for a session somewhere.

I think it's gonna be a close year with a good route.

If anyone does find a bar I'll be up for watching some stages.

Just out of interest (well, curiousity really) who's everyone following/most excited about watching this year? I've never actually sat down and watched any stages of the tour and thought I might give it a go this year.

www.cycling.tv might be useful Tommy.
www.cyclingnews.com too

wools: Cadel Evans for Australia's first GC victory.
McEwan for Green.
Stuey for a 200k solo break stage win.

Italia Uno in Charlotte Street will be showing on at least 1 of their 4 tvs!

And I am sure that the sports place on City Road will be too.

Thanks Bill and Cajeta - the Offside Bar looks ideal. I'll pop in there next week and see if they are amenable to a group of us turning up to watch the Tour.

The Eurosport stream is OK, and pretty cheap at 5Euro for the month. But it's not very hi-res and you need Windows to make it work.

andyp, i may well be up for taking the afternoon off once or twice. just coming over the top of a stack of work at the mo so can treat myself a bit.

plus one for the Offside bar where i watched a lot of the tour last year. however, was in there for sunday's stage and they wouldn't show it in deference to fuckin wimbledon and the British GP. anyway, reckon they will be back on message now.

will look at my schedule and pm you dude in the next day or so.

oh, and andy, they will be amenable - the place is normally empty, it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. bring good locks for bike and park on main city road rather than side street. a few undesirables round there, well round everywhere really.

I'm certainly keen to see stage 17 on Weds 23rd. The highlights show won't be able to do that one justice.

not for the faint hearted! it was really really good fun, though i'd not recommend it if you like your tyres : ) skidding round some of the corners at speed was dicey to say the least... my legs hurt for about four days after that !
