English bb axle length - London Fixed-gear and Single-speed

I need to buy a new bottom bracket for my hack bike. I've only ever bought bbs for Italian threaded frames before so know which axle length I need to get a certain chainline but the world of English threaded is a mystery to me.

The chainline is 42 mm so what axle length do I need? 107 mm or 110 mm?

English BBs are 2mm narrower at the cups, but I don't know if that would affect spindle length on a symmetrical axle.

I think 107mm is track standard which should work with the 42mm chainline.
Or get an adjustable BB like Phil or Miche to avoid pain.

The axle length depends on the cranks you're using. That shouldn't change between Italian and British threading - the chainline should be the same with each.

There's no such thing as "track standard" - it varies from crank to crank.

I've been doing some more research and it looks like I'll need a 107 mm axle for a 42 mm chainline on Stronglight cranks (although Will@hubjub makes a cryptic comment about that not being true in his experience.
