Rider Down - Old Street Roundabout

From my 10sec glance it appears as though a truck turning down City Rd has hit a rider.
Loads of cop cars and ambos directing traffic around the area.
Looked to be a guy on the ground being given oxygen on the inside of a parked truck.

Saw that, just saw the police looking under the wheels, didn't look too close as it was chaos in the queuing traffic!

It was a huge MAN truck with a big Maersk container on it. I passed at 9.15am. The rescue had long passed by then it seemed. The bike lodged squarely between the front two wheels of the truck was light beige colour. Maybe a brown saddle. classic designed bike - not a mountain bike I'd guess.

Just got to work from Old St. The roundabout is all police-taped up with police cars blocking the southerly exit. That bike was right under the front of the truck but no sign of ambulances when I was there. Scary stuff indeed.

I was there earlier and the rider wasn't under the truck at that stage but kinda next to it, being attended by medics. Didn't see a bike.

I passed there about 9ish, no sign of the rider, just the bike between the front wheels. The cops were taking lots of pics. Hope the guy is ok, I'm pretty sure I've seen that bike around before :(

Was the lorry turning left onto northbound city road or turning south toward the city?
I have a pal who rides a cream bike west from east end in the mornings...

The policeman i spoke to said the rider is okay though he may have a broken leg and has been lucky as he seems to have gone under the HGV.

bike was fixed (or ss - though no back brake), cream colour, ahead stem, and those bull bar extension bits on the end of risers, black Vs.

i went by after 10 and they still had it cordoned off to take pictures of where the bike was lying. Amazing that they held the traffic for so long.

Sorry mate, all I saw was the cream bike... It looked quite stripped down so definitely a single speed and I may have seen some white trimmings on the handlebars but wasn't paying too much attention to specifics . Glad to hear that he is still alive, hopefully he recovers quickly.

I am very happy the rider survived. Looked like he went straight under the centre of the vehicle - but not too far. Those trucks have a huge blind spot at the centre front don't they?

peterD just posted on spotted, doesn't sound like a man who's just been hit by a truck.

The question is, is it someone on here? Get well soon dude, whoever you are.

Those blind spot diagrams are superb and frightening. I wonder if truck depots could put them out to their drivers so they, too, would be a little less blase about it.

Judging by the position of the truck, it was in the wrong lane coming round the roundabout and was swinging across a lane of traffic to go south into the City. The position where the rider would have been is pretty much the normal position that everyone ends up in when they're trying to head straight across the roundabout from Old St east to Old St west.

I wasn't there at the time, though, just have been riding that route every morning for the last four years so have a vague idea of how things normally work there.

Eh? I saw him on the deck what seemed quite close to the rails on the inside, which made me think the cyclist was going to turn left into the city and undertook the truck. But I did say it was only a 10sec look.

Dunno, he'd been taken away by the time I went past. But the lorry was quite a way out from the railings, plus on a bike you tend to get forced onto the outside of traffic anywhere you are on that roundabout unless you're very assertive.

The only issues I've had with that roundabout are cunts in cars/trucks running the E-W red light when I'm moving off, but then I'm running most of the others, but then I'm not going to maim them in a crash.
I hope he heals but it doesn't sound promising. :(

Get better fella whoever you are!

Newspaper reports are f*cking weird. 10 years ago I was hit by a car from behind at 70mph, leaving me with smashed teeth, a broken back and a severed tendon in my leg. Apparently I collided with a car and suffered cuts and bruises. My mum went mental and phoned the paper whilst I was recovering. New report printed with a much fairer assessment of what happened.

I like the way news papers always state whether a rider was wearing a helmet or not as if to insinuate that not wearing a helmet means it's partially the riders fault or they were asking for trouble.
