Dale,

Cheers, I'll probably just get the spokes and stuff from there then. Trying to get a list of stuff together so I can get actual pricing on it all for people.

OK. I'll definitely have to pull out of the class, sorry. If any spaces open up on Thursday I'd love to come, but I appreciate that it's already packed.

I've already bought the rims/hubs, so I'll be getting a tutorial book and having a crack myself.

No probs Sparky.

I called Cavendish to ask about prices:

Open Pro - £40
Cxp22 - £25
Cxp33 – they couldn’t give a price, they’re not sure they can get them.
Deep V - £40

System Ex / Formula hubs - £50 per pair for silver/black, £60 per pair for colours
Phil Wood Hubs - £90 front/£125 rear for silver, £100f/£137r for Black and £270 for a pair of colours

SO … even with the 15% discount RJS has (very kindly) negotiated with Cavendish, I was still cheaper ordering online. I found open pros at wiggle for £25 each.

+1 to Dogs’ suggestion for Cyclebasket too – v. good prices.

As Mr Otters says, this kicks the pricing we're going to get from Cavendish. Out of the 7 people I've heard from, I think 4 people want Open Pro or CXP33. We might be better just ordering separately it looks like?

fraid so RJS. jeez, cyclebasket - £40 for formula hubs? I presume the SJSC ones I got are the same..otherwise I feel like I missed a better option..

SBB was saying at central drinks about maybe knowing a route to some cheaper spokes - any news Matt?

fo the record DT competition spokes 'n' nipples are the only thing I need now and I have the dimensions I need.

What time's the Thursday one happening or have I missed it?

I just looked on Wiggle and Chain Reaction, and neither have 280-282mm spokes, which is what I need for high flange Phils and CXP33 I have been told. Bah.

The rims...Campy Delta have angled holes. The left spoke goes to the right hole creating a slight bend. I have heard this lessens the stress point but looks a bit shonky to me.
Bling bling assures me it's fine. :)

Anyone got any info on black spokes for Gran Compes to V's 3 cross? Length? Availability?

how much did they charge you ht? are these the double butted (ie Competition) you bought?

Probably go internet but better to check with BC first as they may well be able to sort me out.

JOL - SJSC have black competition spokes, but I don't think they have a full range of sizes :(

I'm building Gran Compe front hub onto a deep vee, spoke length is 281. I did a spoke calc myself and got it verified by SJSC.

I used this site http://www.bikeschool.com/spokes/ and I also got the chaps at SJSC to confirm it using the DT Swiss spoke calculator. Both gave me the same result. Lets hope its right!

You should be able to get all the measurements needed to plug into these calculators on the web quite easily.

Standard nipple length I believe is 12mm.

Someone chime in if I'm chatting shit...

They are competition, but I haven't grabbed the price. I was too relieved to find they had what I needed to check properly. I don't think it will be much more than what you would get anywhere else. They said they had a whole box and would be getting some more in over the week.

Right, got the hubs, got the rims, now i'm down to the spokes too. BLB helpfully measured it all up and advised for 3 cross I needed 278/278 for the front and 279/278 for the rear (hope that makes sense). But they didn't have any DT swiss in stock. If anyone has any silver spokes/nipples to this spec that i can buy, please let me know. thanks,

really looking forward to this...

My rims are here, hubs are hopefully on the way from the US (got them on eBay). If they don't get here on time I'll pick one up from Cavendish and sell the one that arrives later. Still need spokes and nipples, though.

Spokes sorted at Cavendish at lunch; they assured me that 288mm would be OK with 3-cross on my setup. That's 6-8mm off of what DB recommended - slightly worried. Hubs still not here. Bit more worried.
