| | I'm very up for this - I've been thinking about building my own wheels for a while, but have been worried about ending up in a bloody mess surrounded by bent spokes after their first ride. This will be really helpful, thanks to everyone who's offered to help out. To show my ignorance, what will I need to bring? - Hubs, and rims obviously - Spokes (any particular kind, size?) - Nipples (any particular kind, size?) |

| | After having a chat with Mr Otters, and PJS last night, I was wondering whether anyone would be interested in a group order for the parts for this. I'm going to try and see whether I can get someone to give us a bit of a discount. However, we probably need to make up our minds as to what people are wanting - let me know if you have preferences, and I'll see what I can do to sort this out. Cheers! |

SJS cycles is very resonable for spokes they have most sizes and stock DT Swiss. The nipples come with the spokes I believe.

| | Ok ... I have access to 3 possibly 4 truing stands, if we can get more then that would be great. Or just do two to a stand. I have a handful of spoke keys, but more would be good. As for spokes.. if you can workout the sizes you need i can make an order. Try and get the lengths to me by the middle of next week so that i can make sure they are here in time. DT double butteds i could probs do for 40p each. Bike fix will have some goldtecs in soon, not sure if thy will arrive before the dates though, ill check with trev. |

| | RJS, i'd love to take you up on a group buy if you can co-ordinate it. I'm building cheap, so system ex / formula equivelant hubs (silver) and some mavic cxp33s, if we can get a decent discount. I'll take up Matt's offer on the spokes. Any suggestions for slightly cheaper rims? I think the cxp22s only come in black and i'm being a snob for the shiny silver finish. Is anyone else looking to buy similar bits? oh, and i'm buying for front (100mm) and rear (120mm) - will build one at the workshop and one at home. |

| | From past experience of trying to arrange group buys, probably need 5 or so people if we're going to get much advantage. I'm sort-of looking at Goldtec to Deep V, but might end up doing Formula/System-Ex to Deep V. If there's only three of us, I don't know whether it's worth trying to arrange it - thoughts? |

| | well only four minutes after yours otters but...bump. er dudes...since we last "spoke" (see what I did there?) I've hooked myself up with a pair of those SJSC hubs. Will be building 36h Mavic Open Pro, also now in my possession. Otters you can get Open Pros - the modest gentleman's choice - for between 25 and 30 spots each. 25 will be difficult but it is possible (ie that's what I ended up paying). Silver too. I've been told by SJSC I need 287mm spokes for rear and 288mm for front for a three cross - which means my own comprehension levels have now blown a gasket and I just hope this is right... sound right to you SBB Matt? |

i was then (probably) going to get a deep-V from cavendish or holloway, although i'm currently being a bit indecisive about colours ;-)

| | I'll give Cavendish/BLB etc a ring tomorrow and see if we get a discount if we buy 5 sets of Formula/IRO etc things - we can probably order rims too. I'll check feasibility first thing tomorrow, and then we can go from there. :-) On a train to Madchester right now, so apologies if this message appears eighteen hundred times, since National Express' wifi is terrible, and my now ex-job have cancelled my datacard. |

| | OK, so we're looking at 4 sets of hubs, some rims. With IRO/SystemEx, I think that's ~240 quid for the hubs, 25-35 quid for the rims each. I'll ring Cavendish in the morning, and then a couple of other people and see whether they'd be interested in offering us a discount. If you need anything different, then scream at me. If not, I shall PM people tomorrow if I have any success. |
