I don't think it's that hard to take a bike over there, really! You could take over one, sell it while you're there, buy a new one and bring it back (claiming it was yours).

I couldn't find anywhere that did fgss rentals when I was there this spring. That having been said, there's nothing to stop you flinging your own bike in a box and taking it over there.

NYC is awesome to ride - Manhattan's pretty compact and the fact that practically everything's one-way makes it really easy to get used to the way the traffic flows.

The bike shop on East 17th and Union hires out SS, and has a heap of fixed bikes too. Its somewhere indexed in the old forum, so i guess a hunt for NY will find it eventually.

And by the power of google:

But as they say ^^^, take a beater, buy a new one, leave beater behind.

I was actually thinking about renting whilst there and buying a new frame or get one made!!!!

So if I bring one back (and didn't take it out) I will have to declare it at customs???

get yourself to paragon sports over at union sqr. when i was there a month ago, they had the new schwinn madison for $500...pretty good package. they also had the cannondale's alu track bike and the cheapo swobo ones.

i wouldnt worry bout the customs thing...but make sure your bike looks used, just in case.

If you time it right, you could get New York State organic mud from the Union Square food market on a Friday (i think) to smear all over it!

Do they not check your flight manifest thing to see what luggage you had when you arrived in the first place? I've been checked with guitars in teh past - but have also brought lots home with me that I've bought over there. I just posted the receipts home in advance.
