North and East Bike Polo?

So Rob and I were talking about North and East polo games sometime during the week. I brought up the idea of a 'floating' game, as in no set day, somebody would just put it out there and hopefully it would happen. We would need a good way of communicating this out though, either here on the forum or some sort of email list.

JOL's court seems like a good location but we would need others just in case it's taken. I could propose this one but haven't visited it personally.

I almost* have enough mallets to supply a game but have lost my balls (no pun...). I know xsheepx's house has mallets and balls so I reckon we're all set, just need some action!

*since 2 of mine broke in one day...

I'm down to play more for sure

I also need to learn how to make mallets, maybe we could have a mallet session at some point?

Are the balls just field hockey balls? I'll try and get some if so

Wood mallets are heavy and the shafts break easily. I went through a dozen of them before going the ski pole route.
They were cheap broomstick handles though...

Is there a difference between street hockey balls and field hockey balls?

*yep, google shows they are indeed different. I suppose either would work.

I don't understand why there is a debate about mallet at this point..? hasn't everyone been to Brick Lane Polo yet and seen what the standard is? Nothing against wood mallets but they are a bit dangerous for other users because of the weight.
When is that northeast polo thing supposed to happen? Could it be good for the Saturday games (http://www.londonfgss.com/thread5640.html) I suggested a while back?

I don't get this heavy wood mallet thing. If you make a mallet out of seasoned oak it will be heavy but if you make it out of pine it will be light. Different woods different properties just like any other material.

I just think a swinging mallet in wood has more inertia than a alu/plastic one. In NYC they even drill holes in the mallet heads to make them lighter...

I made 3 wooden mallets on rainy Monday. Constructed from hardwood dowelling + heads are pine / drillium. avant-garde designs + rustic waxed finish.
If anyone wants to play polo in West London (tuesday?) then they are welcome to try them out!
EDIT - I spent too long trying to get some old ski=poles / graphite golf clubs.. ergo..

That's pretty much the standard for everywhere except London. We're always a bit behind the states anyways...

Just desperate, I reckon. How do you charge for polo lessons, then, Aidan? Based on what I saw yesterday, you could be making a mint.
