| | If I rightly recollect: Determining the toxicity of carbon nanotubes has been one of the most pressing questions in nanotechnology. Results from various scientific tests on carbon nanotubes have so far proven confusing, with some results indicating it to be highly toxic and others showing no signs of toxicity. This is primarily because of difficulties arising in spotting the nanotubes entering the cells from other carbon-based cell structures such as membranes. *never heard of Wikipedia face* Last edited by Platini; 22nd May 2008 at 11:18.. I wonder what level of exposure is considered hazardous ? | |

| | It's too late for me gabes, I fear I have already cut my last pair of handle bars down. If they ask tell them I want to be buried in a hip hop slave coffin, it should be fluro green with an orange lid and red lining, I don't want any religious symbolism on the lid, you know, no crosses or anything, but if you could see your way to getting a chrome NJS logo on there that would be cool, also ask them to put Oury grips on the handles for the pallbearers, white would be nice. |

| | ^^^dogs turned into a roadie...wtf!?! how fat are your forks! they look like TT aero forks originaly wanted to cut my carbon fibre bars narrower but was worried bout the loose fibres. i didnt bother cutting it but in my research, ive read that the best way to do it is tape up the bit you want to cut and keep it wet. and of course wear eyewear and dust mask whilst cutting |

All my Easton bars have definitely been CNT (I think it is supplied by Zyvex to Easton) - So these are the killer bars !!!

| | I've been using carbon nanotubes all week in the lab. Everyone in the industry knows they're like asbestos on steroids, which is why we handle them in a glove box in a 1K clean room. But that BBC story is a classic case of them jumping on the release of a paper and making it sound like shock news. Carbon fibre is still fucking bad for you too when you break it (this has also been known for ages, even the monkeys on the shop floor at TVR got twitchy when I started cutting some up with scissors ;)), you don't want to be getting the power tools out around that stuff. CNTs in consumer products like tennis rackets? Can't see the point myself. Theres loads of things they *might* be useful for, but sticking them in 'dumb' structural products with today's expertise is likely to be nothing more than a marketing gimmick. |

| | Nanotubes are stupidly expensive and are not found in any Bicycles components or frames. To put it in perspective. 50 mg of Nanotubes are selling in raw form right now for 350 USD. Add to the fact that no one in this industry knows how to use them and all you're left with are marketing lies. By the way, if you ground up any frame or component material to a dust and breathed that in, it would kill you. |

I have two handlebars and a set of EC90 forks in the same room as me right now, they both use CNTs.

| | on their website http://www.eastonbike.com/PRODUCTS/T.../tech_cnt.html it seems to be something about filling in the gaps between carbon fibres with CNT's rather than resin, which is assumed to improve strength. ![]() note: the page cites no actual evidence that this is effective at adding rigidity. |

| | Seemes the right place to post, HKFixed beat me to the jump on the 103g seat/post combo but this fella in Finland made his own carbon TT frame in his kitchen and blogged everything.. http://www.signature.fi/cf.htm and he did a 100g version too |

| | CNT = Carbon Nanotube Technology = does not contain nanotubes They may be filling the gaps - pointlessly - but it's not with Nanotubes unless there is a market for £780 handlebars that I'm not aware of... I particularly like the graph where they show how strong a nanotube is compared to regular carbon but don't actually show what the performance difference between their regular carbon and their CNT carbon. What about a real world test. I'm really fun at parties... |
