erm its a joke. I am very far from homophobic.
Im just saying it was a very gay bar, moustaches, leather, the full works. Kind of a funny scenario like the scene in police academy.

Man some people get so wound up!

I'm coming down from Hull for this ride, if that's ok. Arrive at King Cross 8am so I will set off with whichever group once I get to the start. How long will it take me to ride down to the start?

Booked a train home on the Sunday so i don't have to leave the party early this time, however I've no idea where I will be staying on Saturday night

Nice one Mike. You're becoming a bit of a regular on these rides. At 8am Sat morning, it should only take around 25 - 30 mins to get to Oval tube. You should be fine for the 2nd group. We'll make sure we wait for you.

And as for some place to stay, I'm sure you'll be able to find a welcoming bed in Brighton ;)

Crikey Jim, you have scared me off now I am pulling out.

Seriously though, I don't think I can make it now. I booked a holiday yesterday and we leave next Wednesday so this weekend is the only weekend we have to get stuff for it.

The wifes moaning at me and she does have a point so I have to bow out!

I have a return ticket for this trip though as she was gonna come and meet me there on the Saturday. Basically the ticket is for departing Saturday and returning any day.

If anyone wants this then first come first served, will go for the price of a beer. I will be in the Crown tonight from about 9ish

On the plus side however, I have pink tires so I think I'm going to get quite a warm reception upon arrival me finks

nick, 49 x 16 is a little on the heavy side but it depends on your legs/lungs. we are not doing Ditchling and i have no idea what the climb up Devil's Dyke is like.

mikec - you will be sorely missed dude. see you on the hills of surrey one dark night then

Well guys, I did a reccy for this today. The weather was beautiful, the route is great. and Devils Dyke has views over all of the Weald, Brighton and the sea... Oh and there's a pub exactly where you'd want to find one. There's also a gravelly steep downhill, before the m25 which raised memories of Grasy Slag's Oxford Hill of Doom.

Big thanks to m-xl and Lebowski for route sheets.

So I can navigate the 'medium group'. and I'm taking a towel to bagsy beach space before all the late sarters get there!

Great work Dropout! I wasn't sure if anyone in your group knew the way, but all sorted now!

I was talking with some guys last night, do you reckon any group is going to overtake/get overtaken? The fast group have the advantage of a smaller group, but 45 mins is a big gap and it's only 60 miles. And I don't think the pace of the medium group is going to be much different to that of the medium/fast.

Will make for an interesting ride.

@Dropout - great glad to know you've done this route recently. btw are you talking about magic brownies?!

@lebowski - you don't think the middle group could overtake the 'medium' group - you forgot that I can only walk up slopes, and need carrying up hills. But i can do Fords. I bet there aren't andy fords. Dang.

Looking forward to meeting everyone again, hope it's as good a day as the Cambridge ride.
How's the weather down your neck of the wood's?
Big storm brewing up here in Hull, not sure weather to take beach towel or brolly at the weekend?
It's not a really early start, 05:20 from Hull station, think I may have a snooze on the train.

I'd think there's probably a good chance that the fasties will be bearing down on the early starters by Turners Hill, where I stopped yesterday to answer a text msg, arrange my clothing, talk to the locals, kick my tyres and do a spot of birdwatching, as displacement activity from getting up that hill.

There again Geoffrey Butler Cycles on the Brighton Road will be open by the time the fasties woosh by. Maybe they'll stop to ogle Colnagos,

Hare and tortoise.
