Cable Crimp

Cable crimp to stop the end of your brake cable fraying.

Alloy, 6mm long by 2mm wide, well used (I got it second hand from a bloke who I suspect was not the first owner either) - all this moving around has made it a little baggy and now needs glue to hold it in position. Even glued on it is not solidly fixed so I get off my bike every mile or so to check it out, I usually look at it for a few minutes and, after concentrating, push it very gently with my little finger, it usually falls off.

I don't know what year it is, but I would guess early 1990's possibly late 1980s ? It would look lovely on a period Colnago, a Bob Jackson or even one of those slave bikes. It is not one of the newer aero designs but it's quite a soft alloy so you could always stand on it to make it aero.

I am looking to keep it together and would not really want to split. Serious offers only.

sorry to hijack this thread, i've been lurking on the forum for a while and i've got a few questions regarding cable crimps.

I'm trying to get into the crimpie scene, am i better off buying a brand new crimp while I decide if i like it or should I look for an old crimp and convert it? How much should I spend? Could someone give me an exhaustive list of every crimp on the market and their pro's and cons. ideally i would like all of my questions answered without resorting to the search forum facility.

I'd get a crimpster. Some people dislike them for their inferior 'alloy' material, and mass-market appeal, but in reality they are great crimps and really good value for money.

What a bunch of cunts. I've been using crimps professionally since the early eighties, before bicycle couriers had even heard of them. You'll all have forgotten about them in six months, but I'll still have some.

you're giving professional crimpers a bad name, learn how to use them properly before you rush out into central london with frayed cables and a crimpers bag, endangering everyone's lives and appropriating crimp culture

Crimped definitely gives you more control in the wet. And whenever I go back to riding uncrimped, the ability to fray feels weird - almost out of control.

Everyone knows that riding crimpless round corners leads to poor balance and hence worse traction than a crimped setup. Ideally you want the weight of your crimp over the front wheel to eliminate the possibility of skidding.

"This is an unbranded pack of approximately 100 extremely high-quality aluminium cable end caps. My photograph shows their aircraft-grade appearance. They are of a classic "top hat" design; 12.3 mm long and weighing only 0.19 grammes a piece. Crimp on to any bicycle inner gear or brake cable up to around 1.6mm in diameter. Prevents unsightly fraying and the unpleasant sensation of a puncture wound from a loose strand. A genuine workshop bulk-pack, these end caps are often seen in High Street cycle shops for up to 15p each!"
