Paris

As some of you know I'm moving to Paris next week for a few months - Summer in Paris, can't be bad :-)

I should hopefully be taking a bike out there so if any of you guys happen to be over there at any time PM me and we could sort out hooking up for a ride! :-)

Jammy bastard, just got back from there today and had a great time (as always)... Check out a new bar on Rue de la Roquette called Tape, just opened up... Lovely guys, simple, unpretentious, total music nuts... Tell 'em Lori and Joe said hi... See ya when ya get back dude... :)

yeah! vic and me looked into bikes on the eurostar, (20gn each way for the bike) so we're planning a little weekend over there. the road surfaces put london to shame :D

what was eurostar's response? can the bikes travel on the same train as you? few months back, i was told to hand to over before (hrs or a day) my train ride but ive read that they're changing their system re bike carriage

yeah, apparently they can't fully guarantee it'll be on the same train, but they i think they try.... gosh, i ain't much help, but i am under the impression it'll be the same train.... i need a coffee.

One of the reason I built the Dahon was to Eurostar it as hand luggage, I'll be riding up the Euston road this evening on 'little wheels'

Me and the gf are taking our bikes for a few days in paris in early june, Eurostar told us that if you take them packed up they can travel as your luggage - guarranteed on the same train as you. Since we're only going for three days we're doing that! Cos i'm too tight to by proper bags, I'm thinking cardboard boxes, shitlaods of bubble wrap and a roll or two of parcel tape. And fingers crossed ;-)

there's a size limit on what is classified as luggage. a bike box might be over this limit and you might be forced to check it in as registered baggage, if so, no diff to just wheeling it in. check with eurostar.

their policy on bike carriage sux.

what about the return journey? you keeping all the packaging and re-using it on the way back? i'm thinking about doing something like this too.

I did meet one bloke on the eurostar all decked out in bike gear but no bike , apparently he has one bike locked up at each end !!!

I am 100% riding to Paris sometime in the middle of August. I posted it up on a thread a few weeks ago. If anyone is interested pm may so we can get a list together. I cant be more specific about dates yet though as its up to the people we are visiting and work commitments etc.

The plan is to unpack and assemble the bikes at the Gare du Nord, and stuff all the packaging in a left luggage locker. Then ride around Paris for three days, return to the station/locker, pack the bikes up again and go home! I think it's genius, altho I am quite curious to see if it actually works :)

You may want to make sure they still have luggage lockers. I haven't seen any in train stations for years.

Yeah, conflicting reports indeed. Hmm, I guess I'll pack a few bin bags, that way if needs be we can carry the packaging somewhere better. It's not like it'll be heavy...

an old trick is to hand the packaging in to lost property at the station on arrival in france and then 'redeeming' it when you want to come back home
