Creaking/BB Cup Crack?

Hiya,

My IRO has recently started creaking from around the BB/cranks. Having a look, I seem to have a cracked BB cup (I think, please correct me if this isn't actually the cup).

It's barely a month old - something to worry about, or something that I should probably just replace at some point?

Cheers!

that looks suspiciously like a cheapo shimano bottom bracket with a plastic fixed cup.

i threaded one just by trying to fit the little bastard.

looks a bit dodgy, i.e will get worse before it gets better, will get better when you replace it.

It's exactly as pj says.
I had the same problem on a bike a while ago, replace the BB with one with metal cups. It'll ony cost 15 quid. Don't get a shop to do it (50 quid minimum).

Thanks guys. I got the BB with the IRO when Cavendish built it up, I figure I'll ask them about it on Monday (they offered a service anyway), and then if not, replace it.

Cheers.

can't blame you tbh.
But cheers for sending it, it will be put in place in due course, on a very nice bike.

Just to update this, thanks very much to the guys at Cavendish! I took it in, and they replaced the BB with a Miche one for me, and charged me nowt.

Thanks very much guys, much appreciated!

is that not the adjustable cup? on lose ball left is fixed as it is not adjustable but on sealed shrimano ones the right would be as it is attached to the rest of the BB and the pos plastic useless cup threads on so it can crack and the teath can chip off before you ever get it out.
