mareeoh, there are no hills to speak of dude. one of the flattest rides you can do in this country, a few undulations a la the southend ride but even less so really.

guys, sorry i can't make this one. sister is getting married that day so a pretty good excuse, especially as she has asked me to give her away.

the routemap posted is a decent route and pretty straight forward.

lebowski - there is no way near the amount of navigation required compared to the southend ride but let me know nearer the time and i will happily put a cheat sheet together as my contribution to the day.

i'm out (obviously) which is a shame since i love london _ cambridge.

one comment on the route: near the end you are by great shelford and there is a very cool cycle path from there to addenbrookes hospital that runs next to the railway line. totally off road with a lovely surface. it is painted in 4 different coloured stripes, representing (A G C T) and it spells out one of the genes mapped in the human genome project.

just a quick question, as this will be the first time that i have attempted, anything like this. so i understand that will be riding to Cambridge. but the real question is how will we be getting back, will it be a ride back? because i don't know if my legs will permit me to do that! or will we be hopping on the train to get back?

Normally we all go to a pub and people kind of leave at different times and head to the station. The hardcore drinkers ( not naming any names ) are usually the last to leave.

Because the train traveling in staggered there never seems to be much grief from anyone

I hope the weather holds out. It's looking perfect at the moment.

Does anyone know any good pubs in Cambridge? If there are going to be 20+ people, I might try and book a table, just so there are no disappointments after 60 odd miles of riding on a hot day.

Lots of lovely pubs in Campbridge. I used to like this pub right on the river, by one of the pieces (aka parks), can't remember what it's called (anybody? Is it still any good?) but I doubt you'd need or be able to book. Everyone just spills out into the park anyway.

If you're talking about the Fort St. George, it's currently closed for refurbishment AFAIK. Shame, as their burgers are AWESOME.

If you want something central you could take a look at the Eagle as they'll probably be able to book you some space. Sat 10th is the day after my exams finish so I'll probably be hungover and hence not make it down to london in time to join you, but as I'm in cambridge anyway I might come join you guys in the pub or something...

This weather is amazing. So glad I took today off work, was my birthday yesterday.
Just been out and I was over dressed in a micro-layer and t-shirt was sweating like a maniac!
I really hope it holds out. I have a friend in Cambridge who I have just emailed regarding pub recommendations. Will post up what she says.
