Save Harrow Skatepark

One for all you skaters, Bmx heads and rollerblade extremists, or those with an interest in saving play spaces for London from The Great Selloff. They plan to make £40m out of this site. Looks like we got no chance, but should be a good party...

I will be riding up from East, could do with some company ... and for that matter someone who knows how to get there...

MisterK: You're kidding me, never heard of it? Its one of the 70's best surviving bits of concrete in the country. It's next to the leisure centre, off Byron Road I think, near H&W BR and Tube. Have a look!

(And thanks for that gem BDWayne!)

bollocks this link above is wrong (why don't links work if they're long?)

search for harrow skatepark on google maps.

I will try and make it up there. First I have herd of this closure thanks Skullhead.

London council just seem to want to fob people off with some crap metal park which I bet is what Harrow would replace the historic bowels with. London needs it's free skateparks more so than other cities because due to the high cost of warehouses commercial skate parks do not appear to be viable ( I know bay 66 exists but one semi undercover park on one side of London with some funny rules and sponsored by xbox does not really count).

yep. the old concrete spots need preserving and improving, not selling off. Its hard to argue, with people who don't know shit about skating that control public spaces, that a metal launch box and two quarter pipe setup on rough tarmac doth not a skatepark make.

Camden have done pretty well with Cantelowes. When I went there in the depth of winter it was rammed, whilst the massive football pitches that have pride of place there (and are properly lit, unlike the skate area) were empty for most of the day, and then used by about , ooh, 15 people. All men too. At least some skaters are women.

London needs LOADS more though.

Yep London has some good concrete parks.

Found out about two more over the weekend, I have not been there but they look worth a visit.
