AnyCity USA

well as of today i have no where to stay in Denver, and no reason to do so. got just over a month in the usofa and im trying to pick a town, have ruled out NYC due to cost of living and how hard it is to find short stay places to live. LA is out, because its LA, Florida is out. so if you could live any where in the US for a month, where would you go and why?

Top runners are
Portland, OR- hypsterville
Atlanta, GA- its warm
Ashvile NC- its warm hypsterville
Slat Lake City, UT- got a good mate, and have you ever seen SLC punk?

Portland if you don't mind not working or can get a job for Chris King.
Chicago otherwise.
San Francisco if you've got a bit more money.
LA if you don't mind the riding distances (sprawling).

Portland. It's like some bizarro parallel universe version of the usofa - they have cycle lanes, gourmet cupcake shops, and 45 microbreweries in the area. 45 microbreweries!

As a yank in London it's one of the few cities in the US that would tempt me back.

Top of my list to live for a bit:
San Jose. Live there, explore the whole Bay Area and SF for less. Also close to old hometown.

San Diego- Fucking amazing place. + a whale's vagina.

Boston- I don't know anyone who has gone there and doesn't like it.

Chicago- because I really haven't visited it enough.

Philadelphia- i have a few friends at UPenn.

Tuscon- I love it, so many childhood memories.

boston - great bike scene, loads of good people, great (vegan) restaurants (Grasshopper and TJ's, best vegan food on the east coast!).

dc - i dunno, grew up there, and it's lots of fun, good music scene, lots to do, close to the wonderful outdoors that is virginia

philly - good arts scene, bike scene, music scene, vegan food. too small though.

chicago - never been, but always attracted me...

Memphis? It may sound crazy but it's a great town.
Incredibly cheap to live down there, great weather, excellent bars, awesome music, friendly folks, PBR! ;)
Check the Goner Records forum (http://www.goner-records.com/board/), you could probably find a room for pennys...
That's what I'd do... :)
edit: Vegan friendly too (it's not all fried chicken and BBQ!), I was out there with a vegan mate a coupla years ago and he had no complaints at all... And he ALWAYS complains...

I'll be in Chicago this weekend...

Plus microbreweries are in soooo many american cities, not really worth going just to Portland for.

...and anyone who says PBR is a reason to go anywhere except to bed has no taste in beer.

Fair enough. Microbreweries = bad criteria. I have had enough bad experiences on business trips to Dallas to agree. But then there is Celis, which gives hope to us all.

Portland remains your best choice amongst your original list.

Take that advice from a stranger with 2 x grain of salt. Rinse. Repeat.

Apologies to the person but not to the beer. The whole PBR thing amongst east coast hipsters is something I detest. You can wear ironic t-shirts, or hats with a sense of humour, but to drink an ironic beer is just depressing.
That crap is like beer-flavoured fizzy water.

Now I just had a little beer (or several of them) called Lake Louie's Scotch Ale. Bee-U-tee-fullll.

I'm posting photos of it on flickr shortly. You heard me right.
