Converting classic road frames, part 2

so, after the thread, i decided to go for it.

kept brase-ons, nobbly bits on top tube, derailleur hanger, etc.

super nuovo bb, stronglight HS, campag 44t front, 15t dura ace rear, cxp22 on back, ma40 on front. moser stem, cinelli giro bars, dia compe deep drop brake.

frame is late model peugeot px-10/cfx-10 competition road frame, with weird-ass seatpost with stem-type attachment, no seatbolt clamp. 531 reynolds professional tubing, hand-brased, whatever the fuck that means, chromed forks and rear stays.

it's tight and it rides like a dream.

can't work out how to embed larger files or do anything really, so...

the set is here:

not long. i have got two essays to do, so i spent about 4 hours fiddling about with this instead.

just changed the wheels over.

rode brakeless, nervously, slowly, to brixton cycles, got dia compe brake, now feel better.

Loving the chrome - drop outs, crown forks & stem. Really nice PJ.

personally, i love the F Moser stem too. Janos at BLB had a box of second hand stems he pulled out from somewhere downstairs and in the bottom was that one. totally sweet and cheap. the lion is engraved in the crowns - i like the detailing there too, mouse.

i try not to think about the money. i always overspend, end up broke for ages, but get loads of love from the bike and a warm feeling inside with each build. i guess that's the way it works, unless i'm doing something fatally wrong.

that seatpost is sitting in the bottom of my 'bike bucket', so give me a shout when you get the bob up and running.

so how does that non seat post bolt work?

pj (pj)
ah.

it's exactly like a stem, with the bolt at the top. at the bottom is the funny inverse trapeze expander that is tightened by the allen bolt that runs the whole length.

so far so good. however, when setting up the bike you realise immediately that ANY adjustment means you need to remove the saddle in order to get to the bolt. at which point you begin to grasp why peugeot made them for approximately half a season.

im torn between too-much-hassle and oh-man-thats-perty, i think pertyness wins. Also should make it harder to nick the saddle?

Looks really sweet, nice build. I have almost **exactly** the same frame at home, just waiting on a few bits to arrive from ribble and she should be rolling in a few days. I love the stem-type seatpost, but I am a bit worried about finding a longer one. My only worry with the frame is that it could be a touch on the small side for me, and where the bejesus am I going to find a longer version of that weird seatpost?!
Also I've gone for red bar tape and yellow trim tyres. Not having assembled it all I don't know if it will look the shit or just plain shit. Fingers and toes all crossed tho...will post a photo once its done and await the londonfgss critique!

the seatpost is a pain, but it looks fine. i have no idea if it is even possible to get another one, i think the diameter is 24.5 or something odd.

yellow tires?

pj that looks class. Keep the seatpost. I hope you look happier than the fellow in the picture riding it though, he looks like he needs a lie down.

I had a 55cm version of one of those, it was great but it died while attached to a lamp post. I managed to strip it right down and eventually the frame went in the bin. I still have all the parts and would love to put them back on something similar ;) . I always found the position just right for riding distances.

That is lovely!

it's 77"

fuck me, it's bigger than 48:17.

oh the logic is too too much.
